A free agent signing of the Rangers in 2019, Jake Elmer skated in 28 games with the Jacksonville Icemen in the ECHL in 2020-21, registering two goals and seven assists for nine points. Elmer spent the majority of the 2019-20 campaign skating with the Maine Mariners, registering 23 points (12 goals, 11 assists) in 36 games. He appeared in 68 games for the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the WHL in 2018-19, tallying career highs in goals (39), assists (42), and points (81).
