Ganesh Chaturthi is considered to be one of the biggest celebrations at JIRS. Prior to Ganesh Puja, Goddess Gowri, mother of Lord Ganesh was welcomed with arthi & puja which was performed by the ladies. Later Lord Ganesha was welcomed & was ready to adorn the decorated mantap in the Vasu Mahaganapathi Temple. Children assembled in the temple at 9 am dressed in their beautiful attires. The bhajans with full musical orchestra echoed in the temple as the ganapathi homa & puja were done by the priest & senior staff members. Children returned to their dorms after relishing the tasty modakas given to them as Prasad. By 3 pm a decorated chariot bedecked with flowers awaited at the entrance of the temple. Highlights of this evening programme were a full troop of drummers dressed in tribal costumes from nearby village entertained the audience with their dancing. The Idols after the arthi were taken to the chariot after breaking 501 coconuts neat the Garuda Kamba. The procession started with crackers, Vedic chanting and children shouting “Ganapathi Bappa Maurya”. All children danced to the music of the tribal drummers till they reached the pond in the Golf course. The Idols were finally taken near the pond, puja was done again and they were immersed in the pond with Vedic chanting. This day was cherished by all the children and a fond memory of the festival is being carried by them in the form of videos & photos when they go home for vacation.
