COPC Action ItemsAdditional ODAA Participants

COPC Action Item 2011-2.1: Identify participants to work with the JAG/ODAA (when necessary) from the Integrated Ocean Observing System (IOOS) and from the operational space weather community. Dennis Hobson will coordinate getting AFWA space

weather assistance when needed. Rodney Viereck will be the SWPC rep for the

JAG/ODAA. Charles Alexander will be the IOOS Subject-Matter

Expert (SME) rep on JAG/ODAA.

Recommendation: Close this action.

COPC Action ItemsDRO and Mark IVB

COPC Action Item 2011-2.6: ODAA should investigate the possible solutions for sharing products from Air Force direct readout satellite terminals (Mark IV-B) in real-time Simple (RT Simple) format. Try to determine if there are any quick actions that could help the centers and scope out the best return on investment solution. Proposed quick action to transmit RT-Simple data direct

from Mark IVB sites to multiple users is not an efficient/feasible solution, primarily from a communications perspective. Recommend user requirements for imagery from Mark IVBs be submitted via existing SDPER process to AFWA for consideration.

Recommendation: Close this action.

COPC Action ItemsGOES Experimental Hourly Winds

Product

COPC Action Item 2011-1.3: Review and provide preferred priority of work associated with ESPC thaw with particular attention to the GOES experimental hourly winds. Feature track wind product being staged on a STAR

server NESDIS Satellite Products and Services Review Board

(SPSRB) Process Improvement Working Group (SPIWG) decided to transition this product operational to operations.

System scheduled to begin running in development in Satellite Products and Services Division (SPSD) and will make available on ESPC FTP server in April

Plan to make the product operational in June-July 2012 Plan to discontinue 3-hour Winds once Hourly Winds are

made operational Product will also be distributed via the GTS FNMOC is continuing to use the data on a operational

basis Recommendation: Keep the action open.

Delivery of NAVO SST data to NCEP in BUFR

ITEM: Current system delivering NAVO SST data to NCEP Environmental Modeling Center (EMC) will be discontinued

STATUS: Solution in-progress, est. completion NLT 30 June 12

NAVO arranging alternate delivery mode of SST data

NCEP requests BUFR format--provided an interim BUFR table to NAVO that doesn’t allow all necessary SST record parameters to be stored within the table

NAVO received new BUFR table--working to integrate several fields to fit it

WMO Information System (WIS)(NWS/TOC)

WIS is a global framework for data telecommunications and a system for managing and moving weather, water and climate information

Integrated approach to collection and dissemination of observed data and products, as well as data discovery, access and retrieval services

Will be core information system utilized by WMO members built on the Global Telecommunication Systems of WMO’s World Weather Watch

WIS is expected to be operational internationally in 2015 NWS/TOC is currently testing the new Data Discovery,

Access and Retrieval services (DAR) capability. A key new feature of WIS, DAR is a request/reply “pull” mechanism with data management functions; implemented through the internet

Jan 2012 implementation delayed -- pending funding decision

ITEM: Provide information on observed latency of MetOp data to AFWA (via EUMETSAT & NESDIS)

STATUS: AFWA conducted analysis of delivery times

Analyzed files received 15-21 Feb 2012; avg 12 contacts/day

“Comm/Processing ” Latency = Avg time from McMurdo to AFWA Ingest ”) = 22.3 min

Avg time from sensing to AFWA Ingest (“system latency”) = 47.7 min

Further analysis req’d to assess internal AFWA latency component
