A brief report on NSS Camp organized by NSS Unit of JSS University

Departments.

NSS Annual Camp was conducted at Hosahalli, Srirangapatna Taluk from 17th to 23rd March 2017. The camp was inaugurated by Prof. GK Chandrashekarappa, Chairman, Dept of Water and Health, Faculty of Life Sciences. The camp was organized by Mr. Raghu Ram Achar, NSS Programme Officer, Dept of Water and Health, Faculty of Life Sciences and Mr. Roshan, Assistant NSS Programme Officer, Dept. of Health System Management Studies.

Major events included Medical and Dental camp for 250 and 350 villagers respectively, World Water Day celebration by creating awareness among the high school students, guest lectures by Dr.KM Veeraiah, Director (JSS-KOS) and Shri. K S Mukundan (Personality Development Trainer), Interaction sessions with Dr. MN Nagendra Prasad, HOD, Dept of Biotechnology, development of garden at Govt Primary School, Hosahalli, debate competitions, and Swach Bharat Abhiyaan at the village.

On the last day, 23/03/2017 valedictory function was organised at Government High school. After the breakfast all the groups started their assignments of packing, cleaning, venue preparation etc., The programme started with a song by sung as a part of Martyr’s Day. Invocation was by NSS Volunteers Mr.Rishikesh and Mr. Sai Pawaan.

Mr. Guruprasad welcomed the guests. NSS Volunteer Mr. Raghu Ram Achar presented the NSS Camp report in front of the dignitaries on the Dias with few highlights of the camp like Plantation of saplings in the school premises, medical camp, dental camp and ayurvedic camp. The event was presided by Sri Jayaramu, President, Hosahalli Gram Panchayat. Sri. Mahesh K, PDO, Hosahalli, Sri Puttaswamy, President of SDMC Govt High School, Sri Swaminathan,Head Master, Govt High School, Sri. Shrinivas CJ, Assistant Lecturer, Govt High School, Dr. Balasubramanian S, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. GK Chandrashekarappa, Chairman, Faculty of Life Sciences, Mr. Vijayaraghavan Hemmige, PA to Vicechancellor, and Dr. K L Krishna, Programme Coordinator, JSS University were present as guests of honor.

Dr. Krishna delivered talk on food practices. He spoke on the necessity to have nutritious food and urged the audience to avoid junk food. Sri Jayaramu spoke on the use of NSS events and extended support to conduct more activities in Hosahalli. Sri Mahesh addressed the audience and shared his experiences of NSS activities during his college days. Sri Swaminathan spoke on youth empowerment in building up the society. Dr. Balasubramanian appreciated the efforts of volunteers in organization of a successful camp and emphasized on adopting and regularly visiting the villages. Prof. GK Chandrashekarappa enlightened the students about their strength in making impossible into possible. Prof GKC gifted all the volunteers with inspirational books, wishing them best for future endeavors. Sri. Vijayaraghavan H addressed the gathering by explaining how small contributions can make big changes in the country.

Day 1:

Inauguration of the NSS Annual Special Camp 2016-17 was scheduled at 5.30PM at Gopalapura Village of Mysuru Taluk, Mysuru District.

Emphasizing the theme of the NSS camp i.e., “Youth for Rural Reconstruction”, Around 20 NSS volunteers of our college reached to the camp site by bus along with NSS Camp Officer, Mr. Raghu Ram Achar and Assistant Camp Officer Mr.Roshan K.

Students were enlightened on importance of water. Students were shown

placards with quotes of water conservation. Later the placards were shown

during the rally in village on the way to Govt primary school. At night

shibirajyoti was conducted and patriotic songs were sung by volunteers

before hitting the bed.
