GRAHAMARNOLDSponsored by
ood evening and a very warm welcome to Sydney FC’s
opening match of our Hyundai A-League 2015/16 campaign.
It’s the day I’ve been waiting for since the end of last season and I can’t wait to get going again. Tonight many of you will get the first opportunity to cast your eyes over the quality new recruits we have signed, and also see the progress of the players who were excellent for us last season.
I think we have a better squad than we had at the start of last season and that is evident for me
DRAINAGE Pty Ltd
when you look at the amount of internationals we have in the side. We have five overseas players who have played regularly in top flight European football, as well as the UEFA Champions League and three players who have represented their country at a World Cup.
For me it makes us very strong but having excellent footballers won’t be enough. We have to win the battle on the field.
We had fabulous support last season and that passionate backing will be important again to help win those battles. I know how important the noise of the crowd is for the players when they are on the field and I know how much it spurs them on. We need that again this season, especially tonight against Melbourne City which will not be easy. They have recruited a number of good new players so we will need to be on top of our game which I’m sure we will be.

PLAYER FEATURE
JACQUESFATYFaty on leading Les Bleus
s one of the senior voices on the pitch for Sydney FC,
defender Jacques Faty has always been thrust into a leadership role.As an amateur player at only 17 years old, Faty guided the French National Team to a U-17 FIFA World Cup title in one of his fondest footballing memories and one he believes shaped his future career.“It was for me very good to represent France at the U-17 World Cup and to wear the jersey of the French National Team,” he said.“As a young player you know how hard, complicated and difficult it is to play for France and to play in a World Cup with this team I was very happy, it was for me an honour.“I was very proud to be captain. I did expect to be a
captain one day but I was young when the coach gave me this attention. “There was a lot of responsibility. I had to take care of the team and to be a leader. At 14-15 years old, to be a leader, it felt normal for me.“These experiences helped a lot,” he continued.“When you can play against other
players from other countries you can test yourself and see what you can do. “This tournament was a very fantastic experience for me for my young career and for my confidence. When I came back to France I was almost ready to play professionally because when I left I was not professional but one year later
I signed my first professional contract.”
Playing and defeating players such as Carlos Tevez, Javier Mascherano and Marcelo, Faty said he feels proud to have overcome that calibre of footballer on the way to
his first title. “I played against Mascherano, Tevez and Marcelo, they were very good, and one year before I also
played Fernando Torres,” he said.“All these players, first were very good, but at this time the French national team was better. That’s why now when I see what type of players they’ve become I’m happy for them and I’m very happy to see them at such a high level.“It is a special feeling to win the Final,” he continued.“To represent this country, I was very proud and it was fantastic.”
To represent this country, I was very proud and it was fantastic.

10 QUESTIONS
www.facebook.com/SydneyFootballClub
Ahead of round one we caught up with Sydney FC new boy Brandon O’Neill for a quick 10 questions...
Find out what song he sung during his Sky Blues initiation, who he thinks is the funniest team mate and what his last meal would be!
What was your junior club? ECU Joondalup Soccer Club
What’s your nickname at Sydney FC?I have a few! I have Branno, Brando and Branners.
Who’s the funniest team mate?Hmmm, Brosquey is actually quite funny. He’s very witty and just because I live with him, Andrew Hoole as well. He’s a nutcase!
What song did you sing for your initiation?I sung a Maroon 5 song called “Misery”.
Who’s your best mate at Sydney FC?To be fair all the lads have welcomed me together so I can’t single anyone out, but I live with Riley and Hooley so I spend the majority of the time with them.
Which sporting teams do you support?I support Leeds United in the football and I’m a massive West Coast Eagles fan.
BRANDONO’NEILLWhat would your last meal be?Just give me a bowl of mash potato and gravy and I’ll be happy!
Any pre-game superstitions? I like to listen to a bit of music to calm me down and I always have to play in freshly cleaned boots.
What’s your greatest football achievement?Probably making my debut in the Hyundai A-League.
What are your goals for the 2015/16 season? To win the A-League, play as many games as I possibly can and help the team out as much as I can with my performances.
