THE SPECIALIST SCOOP SEL-Mrs. Richardson Activity: Sensing Nature through Listening: Sound Mapping Goal/s: Emotion Awareness, Mindfulness, Personal Decision-Making Environment/Materials: Outdoors, paper, pencil or markers Direction/s: Have your child draw a circle in the middle of the “map” to represent themselves, and then simply settle in and listen to the sounds around them. They may close their eyes to increase their ability to listen. As they notice sounds, they record them on the map in relation to where they sit. For example, they may hear a bird over head, a car in the distance, or running water nearby. They can draw or write what they heard, and if they hear a sound more than once, they might record that as well. COUNSELING-Mrs. Kelley & Ms. Milas Hello Vikings and parents. We are having to see our teachers through a computer, tablet, or phone right now and that can become so hard to handle because it is new and different. If your child is struggling keep a positive focus, sometimes it can feel like way too much and we can hear our child say "it is too hard, I can't do it", then they miss out on the experience. The best thing for us to do as parents is to ask our child and listen to the cues that they give us about why they don't like the video chats, then problem solve.1. Let the teacher know how the student feels about the calls/hangouts so that can limit the stress put on the student.2. Take care of personal needs (bathroom, meals) before the chat so students don't worry about those things.3. Try small groups at first and then move to a bigger group.4. Turn off the camera or allow your student to take a break at a distance where they can still hear.5. At the end of the chat ask the child what they liked most about the hangout and focus on that. With positive feedback comfort will grow.I too am struggling with the technology but we just need to start where we are at and grow together. Have a great week. PRIDE ROOM-Mrs. Acheson Hello JCP Vikings! This week let’s practice good sportsmanship. What exactly does that mean? Well, it means that you keep the game friendly regardless if you win or lose. No one wants to play with someone who throws a fit when they lose or doesn't get their own way and no one wants to play with someone who teases or makes losing a bad thing. Games are for fun; we get to practice new strategies and learn from our mistakes. Challenge for this week: play a game and practice good sportsmanship. Have fun! May 25, 2020 John Campbell Primary

SEL-Sra.
