School Safety
Please be reminded that the speed limit on campus is 15mph. We also ask that you stay alert and off
phones/electronics while driving on campus.
If you have noticed, we have signs letting you know that gates and doors will be closed and secured at
8:30. After the 8:30 bell, you should ONLY enter through the front door of the school. This is a safety
procedure that is being implemented this year to ensure the safety of our students, staff and parents.
*****THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING MY STAFF AND I ON THIS! *****
We will have staff in place to remind you of the expectation. Once you enter the front office you will be
directed to the hall where we have patrols set up to write down names of those entering late and issue a
tardy slip. You are expected to sign in your child if your child arrives to school after 8:30. This is to
ensure we know your child has been dropped off and is on campus. You are tardy after the second
bell rings at 8:30.

Boosterthon: FUN RUN TODAY!
Our Boosterthon Fun Run was a HUGE success! THANK YOU to all who supported our school with
pledges and who came out to cheer on students! We cannot wait to share the final fundraising results
with you and to put the generous donations to good use for our teachers and students at J. Allen
Axson! We would also like to express our sincere gratitude for our sponsors (see-attached flyer) who
helped offset and costs of the run, including the t-shirts. Thank you to Mr. Shaun Sullivan from Sunbelt
Rentals for donating and setting up the misting fans to cool our children on this hot Florida day!
Boosterthon Fun! Thank you Axson Parents for sharing your precious children
with us!
Join PTA:
Thank you to all families who have joined PTA; we appreciate your membership. PTA membership cards
will be distributed in a few weeks. It's not too late to join PTA. Complete and turn in the attached form
or submit your membership online at the http://www.axsonpta.org/membership. Check out the Duval
County perks of being a PTA member here: https://www.dccpta.org/…/2…/08/Member-Benefits-2018-
2019.pdf
Our first PTA meeting of the school year will be on September 5th at 8:45 am in the front office
conference room. Please join us to learn about all the programs and events the PTA will be
offering. We will also be reviewing and approving the 2018-2019 PTA budget.
T-Shirts:
Support the PTA and show school pride by purchasing a J. Allen Axson t-shirt for your student. Remember that each Tuesday is JAA T-Shirt Tuesday, so have your student wear a J. Allen Axson shirt that day! We are currently accepting orders for short-sleeved t-shirts, which are $10. We will place our
t-shirt order the first week of September to restock our inventory and will deliver all pre-ordered shirts to your child's class as soon as the shirts arrive. Print and complete the attached order form and drop it in the PTA box in the office with your payment.
Volunteering:
Please remember to update your Volunteer Background Screening, as this is required to chaperone a
field trip, volunteer in a classroom, and to take part in many school wide events. Visit the DCPS site to
submit your application: https://dcps.duvalschools.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=7416

Music Notes
Mrs. Lee is getting ready for a new year with chorus.
This year there will only be one chorus this year. Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade may audition for
chorus. Auditions will begin Wednesday, August 29th and conclude on Friday, August 31st.
There will be sign-up sheets on the windows outside of the music room beginning Wednesday, August
22nd. Auditions will be very short, and will include pitch matching exercises and a simple song. Students
do not need to prepare anything for the audition.
There will be a parent information meeting on Thursday, September 6th at 5:30pm. This is before Open
House. I encourage all parents to attend this meeting.
Chorus will begin Friday, September 7th, and meet every Friday from 8:15 – 8:55am in the music room.
Please contact Mrs. Lee, [email protected], if you have any questions. You may also find
information on the music website www.leej700.wixsite.com/montessorimusic.
FOCUS/OneView If you have not already registered, you can access your child’s grades, bus and lunch schedules, school events, etc. from your FOCUS/OneView account. OneView was added by the district last year as a one-stop place for parents to gain information. More information can be found at this link: http://dcps.duvalschools.org/Page/15746
10 Things You Can Do to Get to School On Time (taken from the DCPS website)
1. Set a regular bed time and morning routine. 2. Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before. 3. Find out when your school starts. Some schools have different start times than others. 4. Help your child maintain daily routines, such as finishing homework and getting a good night's
sleep. 5. Make sure you know how your child is getting to and from school. For school bus information,
contact our Transportation hotline at 904-381-7433. 6. If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors or other
parents for advice on how to make your child feel more comfortable and excited about learning. 7. Develop a back-up plan for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a
neighbor or another parent. 8. Try to schedule medical appointments after school hours. Early dismissal days are great for this.
Check the 2018-19 calendar for early dismissal days. 9. Identify non-academic activities that can help motivate your child’s interest in school and
learning. 10. Talk with your child about the importance of showing up to school every day, make that the
expectation.
