• A comprehensive final online-only report, an Executive Summary printed brochure and a coffee table book on IYA

The cornerstones can survive 2009:• IYA was a step forward in the designation of astronomical sites by the UNESCO

Word Heritage program• “ Portal to the Universe” is meant to continue in existence at ESO, as the ultimate

source of astronomical news for the public• The SIAA site can remain in existence• 100 Hours of Astronomy: Large-scale public observing programmes will continue• The FETTU project will remain and be updated• The Galileoscope will become a commercial product (more expensive)• Dark sky awareness activities will continue• Cosmic Diary will remain open and produce a book Most special projects will also survive

• IYA2009 is a springboard for the enhancement of IAU educational activities (strategic plan)• Incorporation of some cornerstones in the IAU plans:

– Openings for astronomy in developing countries, at the professional and amateur level, and consolidation of links with IAU–Organized efforts to improve teaching of astronomy in particular, and science in

general, at the world level–UNAWE, a program to create an international awareness of our place in the

universe and on Earth, addressed to children in underprivileged environments
