C SECTIONAll the tipsters are scratching

their heads and are getting as keenas the players - Jim Fidge ha seven gone back to Night School.

Enter round two and the Fouris well defined at this stage, per-haps, with Fawkner knocking onthe door .

The game of "See-Saw" ofwhether the home or away sideswill win is over and there's a mix-ed bag to come up this week.

5 The highlight will be a battle of

Itactics at Keysborough and provid-

, ing the weather is fine, this gamecould be a preview of the Gran d

be close but Fawkner should befull ofday's form and add another fourpoints today.

Both Old Ivanhoe and Kew arebattling and both face the "hot";eat . Old Ivanhoe have been disap-pointing to their supporters butl,e home ground advantage willnet them out of trouble today .

Selections: Old Haileybury,Hampton Rovers, Parkside, OldIvanhoe, Fawkner. - ALEXJOHNSON .

D SECTIONCongratulations ALEX JOHN-

SON I crashed heavily and you de-serve the lead.

But I think the stewards shouldbe called in to look at Old Xav's

and Assumption and who wouldhave picked Old Brighton.Which makes todays choice

even harder. No, AJAX I never did indicate

that you were a one-man team, Imerely quoted a statistic on aplayer who is averaging more thanyour team average of 25 kicks agame. Please give him credit whenit's due.

Tread warily however - youare still undefeated but its a longway to go before you can claimto be "Champions and Premiers" .

Old Brighton provided a turnup last week but even with thisimproved form I can't see themtroubling AJAX .

Assumption, with second placethe coveted stakes, will not allowthis chance to slip against OldCamberwell today. Inconsistencyis Assumption's biggest danger.

Don't forget that Camberwell'sopponents last week Elsternwick,

crushed Assumption two weeksback .

Elsternwick will strengthen its"four" chances by holding backNational Bank while hopefully tomy predictions Old Xaverians, ontheir last chance, can pull them-selves out of the doldrums and ac-count for Brunswick .

I say this with no great confi-dence, comparative form in recentweeks is that both have playedAJAX with demoralising effects .

Old Geelong provide anotherriddle . "Nugget" can probably tellme. Did they consider Old Brightonan "easy call" and declare lastweek an "alpine weekend"? If not,why the form reversal?

Today they play State Bank .This is a really tough one - twopoints apart on the ladder andunpredictable from week to week .A tipsters nightmare but becauseJune is traditionally a difficultmonth for Old Geelong, I'll leantowards State Bank playing on itshome ground .

Selections : AJAX, Assumption,Elsternwick, Old Xaverians, StateBank . - JIM FIDGE .

F SECTIONWell it just goes to show you

that the pen is mightier than thesword, La Trobe Reds proved thislast week by downing Bulleen-Templestowe. Mind you they didtheir sums and discovered that theleast number of scoring shots canwin games providing they go in theright direction.

This week will see St . Bede'sstart on the right foot (?) for thesecond round by downing Bulleen-United .

La Trobe Reds and Footscray I.T.will be an interesting game ; as Isaid last week Footscray usuallyprove me wrong but I will per-severe and give them the nod .Beverley Hills at home will win

over Thornbury but only becaus ethey are at home .

Page 8

Bulleen-Templestowe face theUni boys for the second time intwo weeks but this time they willhave the measure over Uni Re,-is .

I have a soft patch for Glenroybut it does not do them muchgood and certainly this week theywould need both Alan Jeans andKevin Rose to mastermind- a willover West Brunswick (mind youyou won't get me down at St. KildaBaths at 7 .00 a .m. next Monday) .

Selections: St . Bede's, FootserayI.T., Beverley Hills, Bulleen-Temple-stowe, West Brunswick. - KEITHFINDLAY.

JUNIOR SECTION 1This tipping business is pro v ing

to be more difficult each week inthis Section . Nevertheless, this isnot a game for excuses, and pointsare only obtained by good perform-ances. I only hope that my secondhalf will be much better than thefirst .

Monash University meet OldScotch at home and should have aneasy win, even though Scotch area hard team to predict - a drawwith Ivanhoe and then beaten byHampton Rovers .

Hampton Rovers are at home toOrmond but despite the confidencegained from last week's victorywill not be strong enough to win .

Power House were the improversof the Section until they collapsedagainst Ivanhoe last week. Theyshould be able to regain their con-fidence today by beating Univer-sity Blacks, particularly if Graiggets amongst the goals again.

North Old Boys still undefeated, meet University Blues who arethird on percentage. The Blueswere unable to beat second teamMonash last week and will not beable to match North's overallstrength today .

The battle of the district sidestakes place at Coburg . This is amust for Coburg if they are to beconsidered as a finals prospect .

JACK FULLERTONSecretary for 25 Years

It is almost 25 years since JACK FULLERTON became Secretary of theVictoriant Amateur Football Association, and the Association has madegreat strides in that time .

Jack has devoted more than 40 years to football, his first real achieve .,ment in the football world going back as far as 1933, when he representedVictoria in the Interstate Schoolboys Carnival .

He played with CollingwoodSeconds for two seasons, 1935 and1936, and still has a great love forhis old club .

Then he journeyed to the countryand played with Horsham in theWimmera League in 1937 beforereturning to Melbourne in 1939 .

Jack played all his football as anamateur, but after the war hegave up playing and started "blow-ing the whistle" . He umpired inthe Metropolitan Football Leaguein 1945 before joining the V .F .L.the following year .

Although on the senior list, hedid most of his umpiring in themajor country leagues - Ballarat,Bendigo, Ovens and Murray . Hecontinued as an umpire until 1951,and was appointed Secretary of theV.A.F .A. in September of that year .Jack has seen many changes

since he took over the secretarialreins - in 1951 there were 40teams competing - this seasonthere are 140 .

The Junior Section was formedin 1939 as a separate body - theVictorian Junior Amateur FootballAssociation-and operated as suchuntil it was merged with theV.A.F .A. in 1953 and became theJunior Section of the parentbody.

Then there was E Section, theReserves and F Section, as theAssociation continued to grow.

Jack was Manager of the Vic-torian team in 1953 which boastedmany very fine players, and liter-ally "scooped the pool" at theAmateur Carnival at Adelaide .

Another feat of which he is

Page 28

JACK FULLERTON

justly proud was the organisationof the demonstration match ofAustralian Rules football at theOlympic Games in Melbourne in1956 . He was also an assistant toMr. Bill Holt, who was the Tech -nical Director for the OlympicGames.

Jack had a good deal to do withthe Association's acquiring Olym-pic Park No. 2 Oval as a centralground in 1957. The V.A.F.A . hadthe use of this ground until di,end of 1960, but the installation ofthe greyhound racing track madethe playing area too small .

His next triumph was the gain-

ing of St . Kilda Cricket Ground as}leadquarters in 1965, but this, too,was to be short-lived as we hadthat ground for only one season .

But the Fullerton determinationwas not dimmed by these set-backs and Jack did much of thenegotiating for the use of Elstern-~irick Park, which we gained in1967 .

Much has been done to improvethe facilities at this ground, whichwe now call "home" and furtherimprovements will be carried outon a gradual scale . Something morewe can thank Jack for - it washis drive, enthusiasm and persist-ence which has played a big partin getting these things done.

Jack received the A.N.F.C . MeritAward in 1968 (the V.A.F.A., oneof the four bodies affiliated withthe Australian Amateur FootballCouncil, is entitled to make a nom-ination for this award every fourth~-ear) . He was also honoured by

being elected President of theA.A.F .C . in 1970 .

Jack was instrumental in ob-taining the use of the MelbourneCricket Ground for the AmateurCarnivals in 1962 and 1973, justanother achievement in the tremen-dous amount he has done forAmateur football in Victoria .

BUT - Jack freely admits thatnone of it would have been pos-sible without the help and co-opera-tion of his wife, Mrs . Norma Fuller-ton, who has been Assistant Secre-tary of the V .A.F.A . for the wholeof the time that Jack has beenSecretary.

And the members of the Associa-tion think very highly of the Fuller-tons, for they have both beenelected to Life Membership of theV .A.F.A .

While Jack and Norma Fullertonare on deck the Victorian AmateurFootball Association is certain toflourish.
