Welcome to IVRPA Tokyo 2018

IVRPA is twenty! That’s right, the IVRPA - International Virtual Reality Photography Association is twenty years old this year. The IVRPA is the oldest Virtual Reality group in the world. We’ve seen changes you wouldn’t believe.

In the two decades since the IVRPA first formed our media formats have progressed from QuickTime VR, cylinder-only photos and stitching using the command line, to various iterations of Flash, to today’s increasingly capable HTML5 playback. 360video has moved from early ‘Ladybug’ homebrew experiments to turnkey solutions for high-end professional production, affordable consumer 360 cameras are everywhere, and the phone in your pocket is a powerful VR player.

The world is still trying to figure out exactly how and where VR should be used, but only the most stubborn still deny its importance. We’ve been convinced since last century, and we’ve been helping to shape our industry’s future ever since.
