We’ve had an exciting World Cup season this year with very unexpected results that did not fail to surprise the football fanatics. The giants having fallen from grace while the underdogs overthrow their triumph in the qualifying rounds and group stages.

While fans of Cristiano Ronaldo may be a little disappointed that the voted FIFA world player did little to help his nation progress to the qualifying stage, we had a new star born.Haven’t we all heard of Team USA’s number one goalkeeper, Tim Howard? Breaking the World Cup record for the highest number of saves, Howard single-handedly kept the American underdogs in contention against Belgium in the round-of-16 match with an outstanding number of 16 saves in that one game. With Howard’s sensational poses, it’s no longer “Bend it like Beckham”, but “Stretch it like Howard”!

There was another person of interest during the World Cup. Korean announcer, Jang Ye Won, turned into an overnight Internet sensation with just her captivating smile. The Beautiful Game has extended beyond the pitch.But she’s not just a pretty face. As a newscaster, Jang has to be well-prepared and rehearse before she delivers the news.

As the World Cup comes to an end, we’ve come up with some tips on how to “stretch it like Howard” with some yoga tips (and capturing that shot), as well as “being professional like newscaster Jang” but not just looking pretty on an interview.

STRIKE A (YOGA) POSE, TAKE A SELFIE!There’s a new fad in town - the ‘YOGA SELFIE’. There have been debates going on about the yoga selfie for being so physical and pose-centric instead of self-reflecting and going inward. However, we can consider the combination of yoga and the phenomenal ‘selfie’ as today’s version of creative self-expression. So follow these simple tips on the art of taking a yoga selfie, and you’ll soon be getting non-stop likes.

BECOMING A YOGA POSER

This selfie moment doesn’t require advanced stretching and balancing. But do try to hold and maintain the pose for at least 5 seconds (It gives you ample time to snap a photo). Here’s an array of Yoga poses for starters.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

Regardless of why you want to post selfies, one of it is probably because you are at an awesome locale. Picturing yourself doing a yoga pose with different backdrops can capture the attention of your followers. It could be at some place exotic when you travel, or even in our very own lion city.

Naming a few picturesque landmarks in Singapore would be Haji Lane, Chinatown, Marina Bay Sands… basically anywhere! Even in front of TCC Group!

CAMERA, LIGHTS, ACTION!

You definitely need a set up. All you need is good lighting, a camera / smartphone, and maybe a compact tripod just in case you have no props or stand to take your selfie. After all, in this digital age, a selfie can be taken with a bluetooth self-timer kit connected to your smart device with just a click while posing. Alternatively, you could get someone else to take the photo for you. A general tip to take note of: angle your camera to shoot from below. It makes the photo (and yourself in it) appear more powerful.

So go forth, have fun taking your yoga selfies and don’t hurt yourself getting into a pose your body isn’t ready for.

1. DO YOUR RESEARCH!

It is important to know what the company is all about before you go for your interview. An employer can tell if you know little or nothing about them and it does makes a difference.

First things first, Google the “Company’s name” to learn about the company online. At the very least, read the “About Us” section to familiarize yourself with the company’s background, and crucially how they see themselves. Take some time to graze through the rest of the website to get a good feel of who their clients are, what their products and services are, and what the organization does.

This will just take approximately 30 minutes tops, to learn about your potential employer and better prepare yourself for any questions that they are about to bombard you with!

2. BE VERY CLEAR OF WHAT YOU ARE APPLYING FOR!

Know the job description inside out, probe for deeper meaning and find out what exactly are you applying for. Do not assume your job scope based on the job title. Do read the job descriptions and figure out how your experience and skills fit.

Fret not if you’re not a perfect fit, it does not mean you are not right for the job. The objective of this is to endow yourself with an earnest understanding of how your attributes match the job and figure out a way to pitch yourself to meet their requirements.

One of the typical questions asked the moment you get seated; “Tell me about yourself”. This is when you have to try to sell yourself as being suitable for the job. Talk about your qualifications, keep your experiences concise, and try to share something that is relevant in their field.

3. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!

Practice, practice and practice! It helps you to better prepare yourself for the real thing. Research for tough interview questions and have a set of scripted answers to

demonstrate your experience. It would be advantageous for you to foresee the likely challenges that you may face on the job, and propose creative ideas that may potentially impress them!

Just keep going over them and get your friends and family to sit down with you and do a mock interview. The more you practice, the more confident you’ll be when questions are thrown at you.

4. “INTERVIEW” THE INTERVIEWER!

It’s your turn! As the interview comes to a close, it’s your turn to ask the interviewer questions. Prepare interview questions of your own ready to ask! You aren’t simply trying to get the job, you are also interviewing the employer to better understand if this company and the job are a good fit for you.

Good questions will help to clarify on the role itself and understand about the culture in this office/department. Most importantly, you’ll also want to ask about their next steps and their timeline for getting back to you.

Just rest and relax before the “big meet” and if you did prepare yourself with our given tips, you should have a good chance of getting hired! Even if you did not get the job, it’s not the end of the world. FAILURE IS THE MOTHER OF SUCCESS, and each time you go for an interview, you get less anxious and more confident. So go all out, and GOOD LUCK!
