“This process has been rigorous, but it has moved us to be a

better athletic program on every front.”

Athletic Director Dale Howard

Football Coach Ted Karras

“This is tremendous for Walsh. The NCAA is a brand icon and everyone knows it. This is a step up in status and level of competition.”

I wish I had the opportunity as a student to have played in Division II. Now on the basketball coaching staff, my Cavs must understand that every team in Division II is consistently a higher level of competition. Playing in this league makes better players. Every team is good but you must come ready to play each game in top form.

Jeremy Shardo ‘11, Basketball

For me, being in the NCAA Division II means I will put even more effort in and work even harder. I know we can compete, and be good, on this level for sure.

Honestly, being able to play NCAA Division II Lacrosse is a dream come true. I've always had a competitive nature being an athlete throughout my childhood and high school and playing a college sport, but NCAA is a totally different level of commitment and competition. I am ready.

This is a huge step for Walsh University. Not only does the level of competition increase, but it will help with all kinds of student recruitment. We can show off our new majors, the beautiful campus, and the whole great Walsh package to a new audience.

I was a student-athlete back in the Walsh ‘College’ days. I am truly thankful that Walsh gave me the opportunity to compete in sports after high school. I know that my athletic experience opened many doors for me. I am really excited for the current and future Walsh University student-athletes to experience college athletics in the NCAA Division II. I can only imagine how many doors it will open for them.

Jackie Novak ’88, Track and Field

This will have a good impact. There is a lot of prestige in being in the NCAA, and I think it will propel us and give us long-term opportunities, like bringing higher caliber student athletes to Walsh.

Ben Biery ’00, Baseball

I am extremely excited that we are NCAA Division II. The competition is definitely going to be tougher, but that means it will make our team work harder and practice more. I also think that it is going to focus more people on Walsh and a lot more people will know who we are.

Jenny Tsangeos, Junior, Golf

Moving up to NCAA Division II competition, especially in the GLIAC, where any team can win on any given day, is a great step up. Being around athletes of that caliber and being in the NCAA will take our athleticism to the next level.

Brook Clark, Freshman, Baseball

This absolutely influenced my decision to come to Walsh. I want to play in the NCAA Division II GLIAC because of the level of competition. We have a great program, this is a good school and this makes us even better.
