How long have you been a butcher?

I’ve been a butcher for 25 years this year, having completed my apprenticeship with Coles in Perth. Throughout my long career I have worked for many top butchers, including the Boat Shed in Cottesloe.

How long have you owned Andrew’s Butchery?

We’ve been open for almost two years now, with a great team who are focused on providing good old-fashioned service. We aim to serve all our customers in a polite, helpful manner – and, of course, provide the best quality meats around.

What is your favourite cut of meat and why?

Definitely rib eye roast (scotch fillet). It’s the best by far – no competition. It’s lean, packed full of flavour and quite simply delicious. A stand out meat for me!

Have you been awarded any butchery prizes?

Last year at the Royal Show we won two third place trophies for the 2012 Sausage King Competition. This year, we intend to take out first place!

I was also recently nominated to compete in the ‘Tri Nations Butchery Competition’ in New Zealand, competing against top butchers from England and New Zealand. Unfortunately, due to other commitments I wasn’t able to compete, however the stakes were going to be high with Australia coming out on top in previous competitions.

THE SHAMPOO SHOP There are not many among us who would admit they have never had a bad hair day. For most of us, things like bad weather, not enough time or perhaps just the wrong products can really leave us (and our hair) feeling pretty flat. Store owners Lorren and Kerry Murphy opened their first Shampoo Shop over 15 years ago; subsequently, today they have four stores throughout WA. Maintaining excellent customer service is a key focus for the owners, “If you’re unsure of your individual styling needs, or you would like some more information, our friendly staff are always willing to give you the advice you need,” says Mr Murphy.

• 500g RED VELVET CAKE MIX • 135 mL water

• 2 small eggs• 75g vegetable oil

RECIPE

1. Place all ingredients in a mixing bowl.2. Using an electric mixer/beater, beat on low speed for 1 minute.3. To ensure an equal consistency, mix on medium speed for a further 2 minutes.

4. Place mixture in a pre-greased cake tin and bake at 180 degrees Celsius until cooked through. 5. Enjoy!

This year we have raised the sum of $2,112.75 for Riding for the Disabled, The Compassionate Friends Society and Tahira Gale.

These donations are all thanks to the shoppers of Centro Mandurah who utilised the Centre’s wheelchair service, borrowing a wheelchair for the duration of their shopping trip in return for a gold coin donation.
