Do-It-Yourself Fall Decoration Ideas Using the Famous Fall Symbol: Pumpkins

1The wind is blowing, leaves are falling, and weather is changing. That’s right everyone, the best season of all is in full swing: fall. While we’re all busy changing our wardrobe

into warmer clothes, let’s not forget about the decorations around the house. One of the easiest and most popular ways to transform your front porch during this season is through

the use of pumpkin decorations. Instead of just placing a few standard pumpkins on the front steps, why not spruce things up a little and try some fun and different projects to

give those pumpkins some spice!

Monogramming Using Nail Head Pins

2

Everybody loves monogramming things. In homes today, people show off their monogrammed pillows, curtains, bathrobes, towels, and other items. Peo-ple will monogram just about anything that will look good with their initials on it! A new trend that has risen over the past year or so is monogramming your pumpkins. Of course, you can always simply paint your initials on a pumpkin. But something that looks a little classier and is cheap to create is monogramming them using nail head pins.

HOW TO:1. Take a pumpkin of any size, and clean the surface using a wet paper towel. 2. Open a package of nail head pins (purchased at Hobby Lobby for $2.00) and arrange them into the letter(s) of your choice on a surface.3. Once you have an idea of what you want your letter(s) to look like, create the same design on the pumpkin using the nail head pins.

I chose to put my last initial on my pumpkin using nail head pins.

Metallic Spray-Painting

Another creative way to decorate your front porch (and make it different from your neighbor’s!) is by altering the color of your pumpkins by using spray-paint. And not just any color spray-paint, but metallic spray-paint. I recently stum-bled across several pictures in maga-zines and online showing this glitzy technique. Not only are these shiny pumpkins being placed outdoors for decoration, but people are showcasing them inside their homes as centerpieces. This is super easy and fun to complete!

HOW TO:1. Grab the pumpkin of your choice and set it on top of the newspa-pers that have been spread out in an outdoors location. 2. Put gloves on your hands to protect them from receiving paint.3. Using the metallic spray-paint of your liking, shake the bottle and begin to spray the pumpkin evenly, starting at the top and then working your way down.4. Once the pumpkin is fully covered in spray-paint, let it dry for 20-30 minutes. Apply a second coat if necessary.

Using gold spray-paint, I transformed my pumpkin into a shiny centerpiece.

Acrylic-Painted Pumpkins

A fun activity to do with friends and even kids is simply painting pump-kins any way you like. Changing the traditional color of the pumpkin to blue, pink or any color under the rainbow will give your front porch a bright approach. Just like paint-ing on a canvas, you can create any design you wish on a pumpkin. I’ve seen striped and polka dotted pump-kins, as well as pumpkins with faces painted on them. The possibilities are endless!

Being a big UK fan, I painted my pumpkin wildcat colors and topped it off with a bow.HOW TO:

1. Begin by setting the desired pumpkin on newspapers that have been spread out. 2. Clean the surface of the pumpkin using a wet paper towel.3. Paint your pumpkin in the fashion you want, making sure to cover all sides.4. Let dry for 30 minutes. Add any extra touches such as ribbon or glitter.
