STUDENT ABSENCE ADVICE.

RUGBY STATE FINALS On Monday 24th November the school rugby team headed off to play in the 2014 Billy Slater Shield State Rugby Finals held at Elwood Park in Melbourne. After travelling through pouring rain, we arrived in Melbourne and visited Melbourne Storm’s headquarters. We had a tour through the complex and had the chance to met Melbourne Storm’s full back Billy Slater and watch the Melbourne Storm and Melbourne Demons throwing the weights around. On Tuesday morning we travelled to Elwood Park and after a talk from Billy Slater we prepared for our first game against Manchester PS. Although the boys were a little nervous we defeated Manchester 2 tries to 1 with Lorenzo and Koli scoring.

Our second game was against Westmeadows PS and we won this game as well. The scores were 5 tries to 2. Charlie and Lorenzo scored 2 tries each and Fui scored 1. Our third game was against Parkdale PS with whom we came a draw. Scores were 4 tries each. Charlie scored 2 tries, Lorenzo and Callum scoring 1 each. We were winning this game and Parkdale scored right at the end. Our fourth game was against Essendon North and it was another draw with both team scoring 5 tries each. Scorers were Paul’a, Jun-ior, Charlie, Lorenzo and Fui. It was during this game that the boys started to play better rugby and communicate. In the last against Cranbourne East we lost 5 tries to 3. Charlie scored 2 tries and Brooky was on the end of some great play from Terrence who ran in front of the opposition, pointed to the corner and dribble kicked it through a gap where Brooky gathered the ball and scored. Cranbourne East eventually went on and finished run-ners up for the whole competition. Overall it was a great result, a huge improvement on last year. Well done to Lorenzo, Charlie, Junior, Callum, Koli, Terrence, Brooky, Zac, Mitchell, Paul’a and Fui. Thanks to Mr Black for helping coach the team in my absence and for driving the bus. Mr McDermott

Volleyball State Finals

The Boys Volleyball team travelled to Melbourne on Mon-day 1st December to compete in the State finals held at

Melbourne Sports Aquatic Centre.

In our first match we played St Margret Mary’s. We lost

both sets 10pts - 20 pts and 10pts - 20 pts. It didn’t help that we had to substitute Callum in the first 2 min of the

game as he step on an opposition player’s foot and rolled his ankle. The team were nervous during this game but

looking forward to the next match.

In our second game we played Eltham East PS. We lost

this game 10pts - 20pts and 9pts - 20pts. Although defeat-ed the team did show passages of good game play.

In our last game we played against Kings College from

Warrnambool. We won the first set 20pts - 10pts. We nar-

rowly lost the second set 18pts - 20pts and as both team had won a set we had 2 min break before playing in the

third and deciding set. Throughout the last set it was ex-tremely close, we were in front at the beginning, before

Kings passed us and stayed in front until the very end where we managed to get even and with 2 fantastic serves

from Trey we won the third set.

Overall we finished 5th in the State which is a huge

achievement. The two teams we lost to during our round robin games Eltham East PS and St Margret Mary PS even-

tually played in the grand final.

Well done to Lorenzo, Paul’a, Junior, Callum, Trey, Adeel,

Flynn and George. Thanks to Mr Black for helping drive the bus.

Mr McDermott.
