BIOARCHAEOLOGY FIELD SCHOOL6 CREDIT HOURS LOCATION: FORTRESS OF LOUISBOURG, NSDATES: JULY 21 - AUGUST 18

COURSES ARE TAKEN CONCURRENTLY: ANTH 3552 (Bioarchaeology Field School I) ANTH 3553 (Bioarchaeology Field School II)

Offered by the Department of Anthropology in partnership with Parks Canada, the field school will be held nearby the Fortress, at Rochefort Point, which was once the burial ground for the inhabitants of Louisbourg after c.1739. A rise in sea level and coastal erosion have impacted the area, and the burial ground is at risk. Efforts to manage the issue have prompted a long-term rescue excavation and analysis of these burials. Students will gain field experience in bioarchaeological excavation methods and techniques, and will learn about data recording, ethical handling practices, and will be engaged in the technical analyses of the skeletal remains through laboratory cataloguing, analysis, curation and storage. The UNB field school is the only program of its kind in Canada.

ONLINE PATHWAY TO COPINGMaster your coping skills. Everyone has experienced a form of anxiety, stress, or frustration in their life that prevented them from performing their best, whether it be at home or in the workplace.

If you are tired of being frustrated, stressed, feeling hopeless or overwhelmed, and are concerned about your mental health, this course can help. It will show you how to develop skills and techniques to cope better with stress, improve your problem-solving skills, which can lead to more internal peace.

Pathway to Coping is an online course that gives every participant the tools they need to develop coping skills in a structured, developmental program. The course aims to help anyone manage stress or deal with persistent symptoms and is grounded in the Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach. It will also support business leaders in their understanding on how and why coping skills directly affect business results. Mental-health issues left unchecked can influence the frequency, intensity and duration of performance issues.

WORKPLACE HEALTH & WELLNESS

According to the Mental Health Commission of Canada, about 30 per cent of short- and long-term disability claims are attributed to mental health problems and illnesses. The overall economic burden caused by mental illness in Canada totals about $50-billion each year, of that a staggering $20-billion stems from workplace losses.

In the end, business success is dependent on employees being mindful and thinking before they act. Mental health is the number one reason why workers take short-term disability leave, causing health care costs of chronic illnesses to rise.
