• Indian economy is witnessing a surge in economic development.

• Opening of foreign direct investment (FDI) in real estate market has created unprecedented demand for raw land.

• Investments in real market are considered to be lucrative in terms of high returns.

• Compared to demand for information related to raw land, very l itt le information is available.

• Information required by the investors is related to;

( i) Ownership status ( i i )Availabil i ty of transport network e.g. metro or

rai l/road network etc.( i i i )Exist ing & proposed land uses ( iv)Availabil i ty of services e.g. water supply,

sewerage, drainage etc.(v)Lit igations & permissions from local bodies etc.• Above information is maintained by various

govt departments but not necessarily in a uniform format.

• Such a situation leads to mismatch between information held by two departments.

• GIS has an important role to play & to act as an interface between various departments which holds crucial information on above mentioned aspects.

• These exterior demand on GIS and globalised community wil l affect &shape the design of future GIS.

1. First ly, there wil l be a need for geo referenced base map and cadastre data.

2. Secondly there wil l be shift in focus from land parcels to buildings/property.

3. Third wil l be a need for vert ical information e.g.-height & underground services.

4. Fourth & most importantly real t ime updating of database.

• Then there are various activit ies which are intertwined with each other related to complex field of urban development.

• Integration of urban development activit ies with land market world wide, induce the need for regional & national base map network integrated with cadastre information.

Cadastres wil l move from approximate boundary representation towards survey – accurate boundary representations

Cadastres wil l change from purely parcel – based systems towards system of layered property objects.

Cadastres wil l expand from 2D approaches to include 3D and 4D perspectives.

Desperate national and state – based cadastres, indicated red and blue, wil l become interoperable at regional and global levels.

Property interests are now designed around strict bearings around strict bearings and distances or Cartesian coordinates but future cadastres wil l better model the organic natural environment by enabling fuzzy and dynamic boundary definit ions.

LOCATION

Use of satellite imageries in ROHINI PROJECT of Delhi Development Authority(DDA) was found very useful. This project or sub city for 1 million population spread over 5000 Ha. Of land is located in the North West of Delhi. Existing Base maps were at least 10 years old or in some cases simply not available.
