NEWSLETTER
October 2019
It’s a yes! As you may well be aware last week we received planning permission for a swimming pool to be built on our site. This project has been discussed for a couple of years now and it is great to be able to move it forwards to the fundraising stage. Please keep your eyes open for further updates in the near future regarding the project and our next steps as a school. If you are interested in being more involved in the project or feel you have some relevant skills or contacts please do let us know. Article 29: Education must develop every child’s personality, talents and abilities.
We will be taking part in Outdoor Classroom Day
on Thursday 7th November 2019.
Outdoor Classroom Day is part of a global
campaign that aims to celebrate outdoor learning
and play, and to inspire schools everywhere to
make outdoor learning and play part of every day.
The children may come to school in their outdoor
clothes and wear them for the whole day. We
encourage children to dress in suitable clothes,
including warm clothing, wellies and waterproofs
(just in case). The advice is to be prepared
whatever the weather as the children will be
outside for most of the day.
We are looking forward to an exciting day of
activities.
Article 31: Every child has the right to relax, play and take part on a wide range of activities.
We hope that you enjoyed listening to the children singing their Harvest songs this morning. This year we collected food donations on behalf of Woking Food Bank. Thank you all for your generous donations.
Is Your Child in Year 6? If your child was born between 1st September 2008 and 31st August 2009, you will need to apply for a secondary school place by 31st October 2019. You can apply online by visiting www.surreycc.gov.uk/admissions. If you require a paper copy, please call 0300 200 1015. For specific secondary school open days, please visit their individual websites.

We had a wonderful day on World Mental
Health Day on Thursday 10th October. It was
great to see how many people were all
supporting this worthwhile charity by wearing
something yellow and making a donation.
Children learnt about being resilient, which is
one of this term's focus values and children
made bunting by creating positive messages to
each other. This showed us that everyone is
valued and that there are people who care
about us and are here to listen, support and
help us to be resilient.
The day culminated in a magnificent cake sale
after school put on by The Friends of
Beaufort.
As a result of the day, £392 will be making its
way to Young Minds Charity. Thank you to
everyone for making the day such a success.
We are also happy to announce that the school
council have chosen Young Minds as their
charity to support this year. Article 24: Governments must provide education on health and wellbeing so children stay healthy.

Modeshift STARS is the national schools awards scheme that has been established to recognise schools that have demonstrated excellence in supporting cycling, walking and other forms of sustainable travel. This scheme encourages schools across the country to join in a major effort to increase levels of sustainable and active travel in order to improve the health and well-being of children and young people. Beaufort Primary is participating in the Modeshift STARS award scheme. Children will be given a badge each month when they come to school at least once a week by either bike, scooter, car share or walking. We are aiming for the Modeshift STARS bronze award at the moment. Article 24: Governments must provide education on health and wellbeing so children stay healthy.
RECYCLE WITH MICHAEL
We have arranged for a
Recycle with Michael
collection of unwanted
shoes and clothing on 6th
November. The Salvation
Army will collect the bags
and the money raised from the items will be
shared with the school. The more bags we
fill– the more cash we raise! So, if you’re
having a clear out over the half term
holiday, remember Recycle with Michael, and
donate your unwanted clothes and shoes.
Thank you
GOVERNOR VACANCIES
We have two vacancies for Parent Governors at the
school.
The role of governor requires you to:
• get to know the school, including visiting the school
occasionally during school hours and in agreement with
the Headteacher, and gaining a good understanding of
the schools strengths and weaknesses
• look at issues objectively
• have confidence to ask questions and join in with
debates
• have a willingness to listen and make informed
judgements
• have the ability to work well with others
• attend induction training and regular relevant training
and development events
•attend meetings and read all the papers before these
meetings. The Full Governing Body meets 4 times a year,
generally in the evening. We have two committees who
meet once each term during the day and governors
generally belong to one of these committees
• act in the best interests of all the pupils in the school
• behave in a professional manner, as set down in the
governing board's code of conduct, including acting in
strict confidence.
If you have any financial experience, this could be
beneficial but is not essential. We need parents who
can offer the necessary time and commitment, which is
important for this role. If you are interested in
becoming a Parent Governor, please contact Jamie
Oxborough, School Business Manager, for an application
form (email [email protected] or call 01483
474986). If you want to know more about being a
governor before deciding to apply, you can contact the
chair of governors at [email protected] for
more information.
Applications should be in by 25th November 2019.
We have had a few cases of
head lice this week. We would
be very grateful if you could please check your child’s
hair over the half term and treat as necessary. After
the treatment is complete, you should check every
week, for a month, to make sure the lice are clear.
Make sure that everyone who has been in contact
with an affected person is examined to ensure that
they have not got head lice too, this especially applies
to members of the same household and to close
school friends.
All affected members of the household should be
treated at the same time.
Combs and brushes of an infected person should be
washed in hot water daily.

SCOOTERS ON SCHOOL GROUNDS A child was accidently hit by another child travelling
at full speed on a scooter, on the playground,
afterschool this week. We appreciate that most
children abide by the rules but there are a few
children who may need to be reminded to take care
when leaving school on their scooters. Thank you.

Unfortunately, she has been unwell this week
although she had planned to come in. Mrs Tytherleigh
will stay with the class on Tuesday morning to
support a smooth transition. I hope you will support
us in welcoming Mrs Sequerah back to school.
A gentle reminder that the first instalment for your
child’s residential trip is due by Tuesday 5th
November. The amounts are as follows: Avon Tyrrell
£50.00, High Ashurst £20.00 and Sayers Croft
£30.00 If you have not confirmed a place for your
child by paying the deposit please do so as soon as
possible to avoid disappointment. We need to confirm
definite places with the venues after half term.
COMPETITION WINNER Last month, Commercial Services ran a
competition for all pupils having a school lunch
to create VEGI, a cute vegetable cartoon
character.
We had many very good entries, but in the
end, this picture was picked as the winner.
Well done to Emily in Year 5! Mrs Tobin will
be cooking her some cookies to share with her
friends and family. Emily’s picture has been
entered into the Surrey final. The winning
character will be made into a bespoke soft
toy.

a wide range of activities.
School Visit Costs As you may know, quite a few of our families are struggling
to make ends meet and the costs of school visits are an
additional burden.
If you are in a position to contribute a little more
financially there will be a tick box on all future trip letters
for you to show that you are willing to pay something extra
towards the cost of another child going on the trip. Any
amount you should wish to pay can be added to the original
cost of the trip and paid in the usual way.
