    4TH INTRODUCTION TO ARBITRATION COURSE:

    SATURDAY, 17th & SUNDAY, 18th MARCH 2012

    The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Malaysia Branch will be conducting an Introduction to Arbitration coursequalifying candidates for admission as Associates of the Institute. This Introduction to Arbitration Course

    replaces the Entry Level Course. The course will be held on Saturday 17th & Sunday 18th of March 2012 atPARKROYAL Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

    What are the entry requirements?

    Admission as an Associate is governed by Article 6 of the Bye-Laws, whereby a candidate is required to, inter-alia:

    6(iv) possess a general standard of education conforming to the requirements of the Council, and(a) have passed Part 1 of the examinations of the Institute, or

    (b) have passed any other examination or assessment accepted by the Council as the equivalent of

    Part 1 of the examinations of the Institute, or

    (c) have such knowledge and experience of the law and practice of arbitration or alternative meansof dispute resolution as the Council may approve.

    What is covered in the course?

    The syllabus of the Part 1 Examination includes Law and Practice of Arbitration, Powers, Jurisdiction andAppointment of the Arbitrator, Preliminary Meetings and Interlocutories, Submissions to the Arbitrator,Procedure at the Hearing, Essentials of the Award, Interest and Costs.

    How is the course delivered and how candidates are assessed?

    The course will be a 2 days intensive course, which includes tutorials and a written examination. An assignment

    will be given at the end of the 2nd day to be delivered two weeks after the course. Results are despatch to

    candidates normally 8 to 12 weeks from the conclusion of the assignment.

    What is the course fee?

    Those who are interested are invited to apply on the form appended. Places will be confirmed upon receipt of

    payment only. The fee for the course is RM1, 500.00 per person. The fees exclude hotel accommodation. Allparticipants who require accommodation should make their own arrangement.

    What is my next step when I complete the course?

    On successful completion of this course, candidates:

    Will be eligible to apply for Associate grade of CIArb, and take advantage of a range of educational

    and professional benefits.

    May progress onto Module 1 of any of the CIArb Pathways.

    The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators was founded in 1915, and granted a Royal Charter in 1979. It is a professional body

    with headquarters in London. The multi-disciplinary membership (over 10,000 members located in 86 countries) includespractitioners in law, construction, shipping, finance, insurance, commodities, agriculture, accountancy and medicine. TheInstitutes sphere of interest is constantly being widened to encompass other specialist fields and procedures.

    The Malaysian Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators was formed in 1994. Its function is to promote the objectivesand activities of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in Malaysia, in particular the dissemination and upgrading ofknowledge and training in the skills in arbitration and ADR.
