EXTERNAL EQUIPMENTEnhancing the Customer JourneyIn today's increasingly competitive marketplace, a priority for any store is to retain its existing customers and to attract new shoppers.
We can help to achieve this objective by providing an attractive and secure environment throughout the shopping journey - from arrival and entrance, while shopping, and to fi nal checkout and departure.
We have worked with our major clients to develop an attractive and cost-effective range of walkways, shelters and external furniture which combine modular formats with robust materials and construction.
SecureShopping trolley theft is increasing and becoming a serious and costly problem for stores. As much as a third of a store's trolley stock can be lost each year. Apart from the cost of retrieving or replacing them, it can inconvenience customers and result in lost sales.
In addition, over recent years national legislation changes require local councils to enforce increasingly strict environmental controls. Where local councils recover trolleys from parks, rivers and housing estates environmental fi nes are usually imposed. Most supermarkets are affected by trolley loss, and have a responsibility to limit this as far as is possible.
Our Radlok shopping trolley retention system is a proven and cost effective method for shopping trolley loss prevention, always ensuring that you have enough trolleys for your customers.
ProtectAnd where there are trolleys and cars, there will be accidents, so we also provide a range of robust and durable impact protection products and bollards for external areas including walkways and trolley parks. It is our goal to enable our clients to facilitate the optimum customer experience regardless of which part of their estate they are on, including the external store environs.
Accordingly we have worked with our major clients to develop an attractive and cost-effective range of walkways, shelters and external furniture which combine modular formats with robust materials and construction.

14 TROLLEY SECURITY
Radlok Trolley Retention System
The removal of shopping trolleys from store parking areas is now reaching endemic proportions, with some stores losing as much as a third of their trolley stock each year.
Our solution to this problem is Radlok, our patented trolley retention system. Radlok is a proven and highly cost effective method for shopping trolley loss prevention, always ensuring that you have enough trolleys for your customers.
Radlok allows free use of trolleys throughout the store and car park but prevents trolleys from being taken across predetermined boundaries. Utilising a mechanical braking system and the installation of a pavement embedded boundary system, it can provide a low cost, low maintenance solution across a retailer’s entire estate compared to the more expensive electronic and RF based trolley retention systems. There are no electrical parts and installation can be applied to all trolley and castor types.
The system that triggers the Radlok wheel brake is embedded in various forms of paving and blocks, so that it blends with the entrance and car park specifications. With this unobtrusive design and application, highly visible warning signs are used at the demarcation points to stop shoppers leaving with their trolleys. These notices can be formatted to your own specification.
Once the Radlok is triggered the trolley can no longer be pushed in a linear direction. Easily reset by staff, this system not only protects you from the cost of fines, collection teams and new trolleys but also ensures that there are enough trolleys available for legitimate users.
It is estimated that 20 to 30 per cent
of supermarket rolling stock disappears every year, and the problem
is getting worse.
Facts & Figures Trolley loss could be running as high as a quarter of a million units annually
Radlok is currently in use across fi ve continents.
Around 1 million Radlok wheels have been fi tted
Many of Europe's leading retailers are Radlok customers

CALL ONE OF OUR DEDICATED SALES TEAM FOR MORE DETAILS ON RADLOK
0800 032 1788
Radlok is a mechanical system which is low cost and offers excellent braking force. It has no power costs and very low maintenance. It is retrofi tted to the normal wheel, which means that the Radlok can be replaced without affecting the performance of the trolley castor and fi ts almost all castors used in the UK & Europe, including travelator wheels. Its effectiveness means that Radlok delivers a rapid return on investment.
Once triggered a brake foot is released which acts on the ground making it very hard to push in any one linear direction. Radloks can only be reset with a special key which will be held by trolley return staff /managers.
Our solution includes warnings signs, which can be formatted to your preferences. It’s time to say goodbye to lost trolleys.
Standard and optional features:
Brake Foot Plate: Width – 150mm Height – 76 mm
Outside Radlok Casing: Width – 65mm (Side view) Height – 110mm front/back)
Nylon Structure with non-marking rubber brake foot
Fitting Guidelines:
Fit two Radloks per trolley, one on the front right and the other on the rear left.
Fitting them diagonally offers the best stopping power.
We supply twelve different fi ttings for different castors including 100mm
Call us with details of your Trolley Model and our experienced team can advise you of the options best suited to your needs
Groundwork & InstallationRADPAVE – Copy paving which triggers the Radloks
Commonly we conceal the triggering system in paving blocks similar to those shown below. Radpave can be manufactured to copy all shapes of blocks and slabs; every effort is made to produce the blocks and slabs in a texture and colour similar to the surrounding surface.

AUTOMATIC GATES
Make an entrance
Our automatic gates provide you with a choice of gate styles, as well as various entrance functions and control mechanisms to meet individual store operational and physical requirements.
Entrance FunctionsStandard – gate normally closedAll of our automatic entrance gates can be confi gured in this way. As the name suggests this confi guration is simply a gate that opens as the customer approaches and closes after them.
Welcome – gate always openIn this confi guration your entrance gates are always open providing an open and welcoming appearance. Entrance to the store is unhindered, but if a customer
attempts to leave the store in the wrong direction then the gate will automatically close and an alarm will sound. This passage function is available for all gate models.
SecureThe gates are closed on entry, as in standard mode. As a customer approaches, the gate will open. If another customer tries to exit the store in the wrong direction at the same time the gates will close and an alarm will sound. All our gates can be confi gured to secure mode.
Control MechanismsITAB’s automatic gates can be interfaced with a variety of control systems, from a simple manually operated push button to more sophisticated fully automatic ultrasonic or autosensor devices. Connection to a customer’s own bespoke control system, for example a fi re alarm or computer system, is also possible. Standard control mechanisms are described as below:
Photocell Eyes (PEC) are a reliable and effective form of gate control. The eyes act as a presence sensor, sending out a beam of invisible infrared light directed at a refl ective strip placed opposite the photocell eye. There are a number of options to suit all needs:
1. First Front Eye – The fi rst front eye is positioned in the upright post supporting the lead-in rails. When a person or object breaks the invisible beam of light, the gate will open and close again after a pre-set time delay. Should a person or object remain in the path of the light beam, the gate will remain open.
2. Second Front Eye – Supplementing and operating in the same manner as the fi rst front eye, the second front eye is typically positioned on a cross rail close to the gate body. If the gate begins to close before the customer has passed it, activation of the second front eye will re-open it.
3. Six Eye Rear Safety Zone – The six eye rear safety zone offers increased safety for pedestrians in the path of the gate arm. If any one of the six eye beams is broken, the gate arm stops moving. The gate will not function until the safety zone area is cleared of any presence and a pre-set time delay has elapsed.
4. Reverse Action Eye – Exclusively for use with reverse action gate confi gurations, it is incorporated into the lead out barrier rail. Reverse action gate confi gurations allow unrestricted fl ow in one direction whilst inhibiting fl ow in the opposite direction.
5. Push Button – A push button is the simplest means of controlling a gate. It can be used in any application where direct control or monitoring of persons through the gate is required.
6. Radar – Generally used in applications where space is limited or a more open environment is desired. One internally mounted sensor is required per gate. Each sensor is factory-set, but due to the variable nature of each installation, it may be necessary to alter the detection range on site.
7. Rear Safety sensors – Can be used where it is not desirable to use lead-out rails. One internally mounted sensor is required per gate.
8. Overhead motion senser – This control system offers the security benefi t of unobtrusive automated entrance gates which are operated based on motion and presence in order to open/close the gates as required. The overhead sensor can be installed in a variety of applications from recessed into the ceiling to supported by unistrut in order to complement the site environment – thus removing need for any barriers whilst giving fi nite control.

All gates are fi tted to 1060mm high uprights. Standard fi nish is bright chrome plate with clear infi ll panel to arm. You need to calculate :
Arm Length - Single gate: Width of gap -150mm, Facing pair of gates, Width of gap - 250mm (Round either up or down to nearest supplied length)
Arm Direction - Imagine you are standing behind the supporting post of the gate, looking down the length of the arm, if someone were to walk through the gate, would it move through your left or right quadrant? If it moves through the right, a right handed gate is needed and vica-versa.
Gate Arm = 750mm -150mm = 600mm
Select type of gate required. 650-1100mm adjustable arms. Ascertain gate arm direction (left hand, right hand, bi-directional). Order fi xings separately. We recommend 4xM10x80 rawlbolts for standard fl oors.
Standard Signage
Mechanical Gates Attractive, safe and reliable, we manufacture a wide selection of manually operated gates which are particularly suited to where a lower level of security is required. Their ergonomic design and the quality of engineering ensure that our gates look great and perform as required time after time. All our mechanical gates have an emergency break-out feature which means the gate arm can always be forced in both directions in case of fire or other emergency situations.
The gates can be used for making entrances, exits and pedestrian passageways. They can partition and block off rooms and efficiently direct customers from the entrance to the cash desk. You can easily combine and integrate these gates with our other entrance and customer guidance systems.
Choose a gate with or without key lock, a Mechanical Push gate, an Emergency Exit Gate or our Bi-Directional Gate. They all have different features to fit your needs.

QUEUE MANAGEMENT MADE EASY
Simple Assembly Systems assemble top down to allow easy in store fl exibility and reconfi guration
There are no small screws or fi xings to worry about giving way
Requires a single Allen bolt to be tightened at the top of each post to secure the assembly
Allows the quick redeployment of beams and shelves to suit the impulse products on display to their optimum
The minimum of training required to be able to fully assemble and reconfi gure at will
Principles of Queue Management Ensure that your queues are perceived to be fair:Where there is no visible order to the waiting line their will be a high level of anxiety demonstrated, with customers concerned about preserving their priority and the danger of queue jumpers. Our queue systems assures customers of fair treatment, reassuring them that they will be served in the order in which they arrived. Removing their concern over queue jumpers allows them to relax and makes the waiting experience more pleasant.
Provide in-queue entertainment or activity:Depending upon how `busy' they are, everyone's perception of time varies. Standing in a queue with nothing to see or do can make the wait seem much longer. Providing an interest (eg news/weather
information) or activity (ideally offering a benefi t and/or be related to the ensuing service) can make a wait seem shorter. Merchandising products in the queue has a double benefi t in terms of both occupying customers and providing additional revenue opportunities.
By attracting the consumer's attention relevant brochures, advertising messages on sign holders or even on printed webbing improves consumer's queuing experience by making the wait seem shorter
Explain reasons for wait:People in a queue who do not understand why they have to wait often feel powerless and resentful, which can result in rudeness to staff in an attempt to reclaim their status as paying customers. They are more likely to be patient when they understand the causes for the delay.
Ideally give customers an idea of waiting time:Apart from fairness, one of the greatest sources of anxiety in waiting is how long the wait will be? Uncertain waits are perceived to be longer than known, fi nite waits, with customers fi nding it hard to settle and relax and constantly wondering how much longer the will have to wait.
The more valuable the product/service the longer the customer is prepared to wait:Unsurprisingly, the tolerance for waiting depends upon the perceived value of the end product or service.

CHECKOUTSMarket Leading ProductsITAB is Europe's largest manufacturer of checkouts, with a wealth of knowledge and experience of customer fl ow solutions. We produce over 20,000 checkout lanes annually, including a range of innovative and fl exible self checkout solutions (SCOs).
ITAB ‘Flow Concept’Infl uenced by the convenience and speed of shopping online, customers are becoming less tolerant of delays and queues experienced in-store. At the same time store operating costs are rising and margins are being squeezed.
ITAB FLOW CONCEPT improves the shopping experience by reducing queues and offering the shopper maximum choice at the checkout. At the same time it provides retailers with greater fl exibility and signifi cant opportunities to increase productivity and reduce costs.
By analysing traffi c fl ows, dwell times, transaction rates (items per hour) and staff costs, we can advise you on the optimum mix of conventional, self-checkout and automated checkout confi gurations to balance customer satisfaction and resource effi ciency.
Our checkout solutions will increase productivity, reduce queues in peak periods and lower staff costs signifi cantly. A single, properly trained employee can monitor and service between four and up to eight checkout units, freeing up staff to do more service-oriented tasks.
Revolutionary New ProductsThe speed of the checkout process is defi ned by the pace at which the customer packs. We have developed unique scanning and multiple packing solutions which dramatically speed up the checkout process. For example, ITAB's unique “third customer function” makes it possible to assist a third customer while the two previous customers are packing their goods.

84 CONVENTIONAL CHECKOUT (CCO)
The moment of truth comes while in the checkout linesIt really doesn't matter how exciting and stimulating the customer's visit to your shop has been if the check-out process doesn't go quickly and smoothly. Our experience is that providing quick service creates satisfied customers, which is why we have developed innovative solutions to help ensure that your customers return time and again.
And that last personal contact with the customer just before they leave is what they often remember most. This is why the few moments that it takes for the customer to pay is an excellent time to strengthen customer relations. An efficiently functioning checkout line or checkout eases the heavy work which needs to be done during the checkout process.
ITAB has a tremendous amount of experience in developing easy to use checkouts to suit a great variety of needs which has resulted in the creation of many innovative functions.
We have learned the importance of practical design in checkouts that feel natural to use and don't cause confusion. This makes it possible for personnel to concentrate on customers and be able to provide better service.
Our innovative checkout products and services range from standard modular systems to bespoke designs, including units with smaller footprints, essential accessories and support equipment.
100 tons less to lift each yearWorking as a cashier is physically demanding. This is why ergonomics are a cornerstone in our development work. Reducing unnecessary lifting and minimizing the number of times a cashier has to stretch to do something, and generally making a day at work easier are considered in our design and development work from the outset.
ITAB's patented conveyor belt scale is one of the many components in the checkout
that make work go more smoothly. Moving and weighing are done automatically. If the scanner has not registered a bar code the belt stops until the item is weighed and the PLU code has been registered. When this has been completed, the belt automatically starts rolling again.
The work area is reduced and the cashier doesn't have to lift goods onto a separate scale. In just one year you can save your cashiers 100 tons of lifting.
The latest in sitting comfortOur checkouts come equipped with stools specially built for doing cashier work. The stools are fully adjustable and the easily made adjustments make it possible for personnel to sit correctly, so that strain on arms and shoulders is minimized.
The stools can be easily slid under the checkout, so that the space that it occupied can be made available for working in a standing position if desired.

88 HYBRID CHECKOUTS (HCO)
Our Hybrid Checkout (HCO) is the combination of Self Checkout and Conventional Checkout in one unit. It has the facility to be changed from manned service to self-service in seconds, allowing full fl exibility in manning levels in store as well as capacity fl exing at peak periods.
Flexible solutionsIn order to deliver the optimum operational savings and degree of customer satisfaction, the mix of checkout products must fl uctuate, not just within different store formats but also within the same format dependent upon location, demographics, footfall etc.
Customer footfall can change very dramatically by hour and by day, and it is important that manning levels and checkout processing capabilities refl ect this without compromising service levels. Too little available resource can lead to lost sales, while too much resource can result in unnecessary costs.
Our Hybrid Checkout solution enables you to reduce queuing, reduce staff hours and give your customers appropriate checkout operations.
HCO is the combination of SCO and CCO in one unit, with the fl exibility to be changed from manned service to self-service in seconds.
A common component for all the HCO solutions is the SCO mode functionality. It’s a complete, effi cient self checkout system, including fraud prevention with a self learning weigh control system and light curtain tunnel for additional security.
With our SCRP interface protocol you can integrate to the POS to extend the required SCO functions. The SCO mode is operated with direct links to the POS system and utilizes all current logic and peripherals that are in use in the actual CCO.

90 AUTOMATIC CHECKOUTS (CCO)
In 2011 ITAB launched the world's fi rst fully automated checkout - EasyFlow. Utilising leading edge technology, amazingly EasyFlow is able to identify products without a barcode.
EasyFLOW identifi es the product with an accuracy of 99%. The technology and the identifi cation method, developed together with one of the leading Universities in Europe, are patented by ITAB. EasyFlow technology is expected to provide signifi cant savings for retailers.
Unique combination of technologiesThe technology is based on a unique combination of six different technologies, including Image Processing, Weight, Object Sensors and Spectroscopy. Needless to say it can also read existing barcodes.
The various methods for recording information are processed and converted into nine different classifi ers where each one has a unique optimised algorithm for the identifi cation of each product.
EasyFlow's unique technology is able to identify products such as fruit and vegetables and to calculate price and weight during the process. This means, among other things, that stores do not have to use weighing-machines. The system can even identify different varieties of the same fruit.
At the checkout counter the customer places the shopping on the belt, EasyFlow identifi es the product and displays the price information.
EasyFlow is compatible with existing POS systems.

WAREHOUSE / SERVICE YARDSafeguard and ProtectBack-of-house areas are particularly susceptible to major impact damage due to the weight and size of the traffi c there, with the constant movement of fork-lifts and articulated trucks. Buildings and infrastructure elements such as exposed walls, support columns, docking bays and even power supply units can suffer serious damage due to the power of these impacts.
In addition, damage to valuable assets such as roller shutter doors, cold rooms and freezers, specialist storage equipment and racking systems not only is expensive but can seriously effect their effi cient operation, with potential knock-on effects on the sales fl oor.
To protect your warehouse and service yard fi xtures, fi ttings and general environments from hard hits and bumps, ITAB provides a comprehensive range of specially designed, heavy duty damage protection products.
Our fl oor and wall mounted asset protection products will not only lower your operating costs by reducing the need for costly repairs and replacements, but will also provide a safer and cleaner working environment for your employees.
Whatever your needs, with several options within each product category, ITAB’s tried and tested products are up to the task.

Easily assembled and installed in long unbroken runs
‘Kee Klamp’ Modular Guard RailOur modular guard rail can be easily assembled and installed in long unbroken runs or fabricated with corner bends and ‘U’ ends for access points and around site hazards.
For a professional fi nish each upright is supplied with two joints in position to take the steel tubes. The steel tube handrail barrier is supplied in our standard length of 3m but on request can be cut to lengths and sizes to suit your site. The handrail has a good overall appearance.
No special tools are required as the whole handrail barrier system is assembled with an allenkey.
Assembly is fast, the upright posts are positioned at 1500mm or 2000mm centres. The posts can be either bolted down using sleeve anchor bolts or set into concrete foundations. The planting depth for the steel upright post is 300mm/400mm.
This modular guard rail is hot dipped galvanized after manufacture to provide a weather proof fi nish that will require little maintenance. The steel can be painted on site, the galvanized fi nish needs to be neutralized with ‘T’acid wash that quickly dries allowing for a top coat of an industrial paint fi nish.
