“Have mercy, Lord, and show us your will.”

July 2017

It is that long awaited time of year in the U.P: summer. Although, it

hasn’t seemed like summer too many days so far this year. Never

the less, things have slowed down at Emanuel. There is no Sunday

School, Adult Forum, or Middle School Faith Formation. There are

no extra services or immediately upcoming church festivals.

This is called Ordinary Time in our lectionary and church year. The

color in the sanctuary will be green for the summer and into the fall.

It is a time of growth. So as you enjoy warm weather and the out-

doors, in whatever way you like most, I hope and pray that summer

will be a time of renewal and growth for you.

Meister Eckhart, a German theologian born in 1260 said, “If the only

prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.”

So, as you enjoy the summer days, give thanks to God for all that

God has provided.

God’s Peace and Joy be with you always,

Skandia Community Days 11AM, Saturday, July 15 is the Annual Skandia Days Parade followed by a day of activities at the Skandia Community Center and outdoor pavilion. We need ideas for a float representing Emanuel Lutheran Church for the parade! Would you like to help create the float and/or be in the parade? Let Pastor Tamra know as soon as possible!

125th Anniversary

In 2019, Emanuel will celebrate 125 years of ministry! We invite all current and

former members to be a part of the celebration.

If you have moved from the area or are out of touch with Emanuel, please send us

your mailing address via Facebook or e-mail ([email protected]) so that we can

send more information on what will happen during our anniversary year. If your

children were baptized, confirmed or married at Emanuel, send their addresses,

too!

We are now putting together a cookbook/biography and invite all former and cur-

rent members to submit recipes, a picture, and a short remembrance of your time

at Emanuel. Send via e-mail or hard copy to Emanuel Lutheran Church, P.O, Box

160, Skandia, MI 49885.

Annual Holiday Bazaar Update

We need your help to make our annual bazaar a success! How can you help now? While

you’re visiting garage sales, thrift store, craft store sales, etc. keep an eye out for things we

use to decorate wreaths and make crafts: ribbon, decorative birds, pine cones, bird nests,

feathers, floral wire, votive candles and holders for yule logs, picture frames, mat boards, can-

dles of all sizes, holiday glass plates for cookie sales, etc. We are also wanting your hand-

crafted items along with our quilt for our raffle. Soon we will have a table in the fellowship hall

with craft ideas and patterns you can help make for our bazaar! We will keep you updated

throughout the fall!

In Our Church

Quilting Group Our quilters are hard at it again, making quilts for Lutheran World Relief and for the Annual Holiday Bazaar and Quilt sale in November. Join the fun on Tuesdays, starting at 9:30 AM at Toni’s home. Also keep in mind that the quilters could always use supplies: cotton or cot-ton/polyester sheets that are at least full size, fabric, and poly-cotton blend thread.

Adopt—A—Highway

Let’s help keep our U.P. beautiful! As always this is a team event. We divide our section

of highway into four sections. Most sections only take a couple hours to do. Please sign up

with a spouse, son or daughter (must be 12 years or older), or a friend. The sign up sheet

is in the fellowship hall. Summer clean up dates are July 15-23. If you have any questions

talk to Roger Kimball.
