During the mornings of April 27 th -May 8 th the Multiple Choice portion of ISTEP+ will be administered to all 3 rd through 6 th grade students at South Side Elementary School. This portion of the test will assess our students’ reading skills, writing abilities and mathematical problem-solving techniques. Because the 5 th and 6 th grade test will be given electronically using student laptops, students in these grades will leave their devices at school during testing to ensure the device stays fully functional and operates smoothly during the testing window. ISTEP+ testing is important to our students and to our school because the results are used to help guide school planning programs to meet student academic needs. The results also help guide student placement, and may determine whether or not remediation is advisable. Students have a better chance of doing their best when they come to school well rested. It is also important to have eaten a good breakfast the mornings of the tests, either at home or at school. It is strongly encouraged that all doctor and dentist appointments be postponed until our testing is completed. Making up missed portions of the test is difficult. Students tend to perform much better when they are tested in the established testing area with their classmates. You can help your child do his/her best on the test by making sure that he/she does the following: 1. Attend school and arrive on time. 2. Get plenty of rest and sleep. 3. Exercise or engage in physical activity after school. 4. Think positively. 5. Believe the testing is important. 6. Expect to do his/her very best. 7. Give each question his/her best effort. Sincerely, Alisa D. Smith [email protected]
