Main issues on ILS Suite of Specifications(1/2)
• Global process unclear. “Ideal” ILS process is in practice impossible, but no room for parallel development (e.g., S3000L, S2000M and S1000D work) due to lack of synchronization mechanisms.
• Feedback relationship and orchestration (S1000D, S2000M, S5000F) unclear.
• Different business rules / criteria / formats (e.g., for applicability)
• No common data model. No common glossary or data dictionary.
• No real data integration – specifications are separate “silos”. No global / transversal view. Different product structures.
• Parallel evolution of different specifications, without coordination / configuration (“mixability” of specification versions?)
• Computational problems not considered (e.g, required parsing of applicability)
• Implementation costs of the specifications, cost of evolution
• Interfaces between specifications are bilateral – “explosion” of interfaces, circular relationships and coherence problem (e.g., S1003X+S1002X=S2003X?).
Slide 4 27th June 2011
Main issues on ILS Suite of Specifications(2/2)
• No common data exchange mechanisms.
• Exchange not part of the suite of specifications.
• Exchange of data of a SAME specification (e.g., between supplier & prime contractor) unclear, except for S2000M.
• Formal relationship with OASIS – Are the A&D DEXes formally endorsed by AIA/ASD? How is the evolution of these DEXes controlled? By whom?
• DEX implementation guidelines (e.g., for SOA) not established globally.
• No specification/cross-specification Implementor forums
• Civil/military convergence? (currently only used massively for S1000D)
• Use of ILS in civilian programs
• Need for specific annexes (e.g., domain-specific)?
• Standard integrated data delivery format (e.g., for maintenance systems)?
• Relationship with ATA beyond S1000D? (e.g., S4000M, Spec2000)
