Dries van Noten inspired by the attraction of opposites - in this case, the Ballets Russes and the notion of Diaghilev meeting David Bowie - Van Noten com-bined up to five different silk patterns in one dress; applied a gilded finish to ornamental snakeskin appliqués; mixed three or four differ-ent coloured tweeds in a zippered bomber-jacket; and added black sequined sleeves to gold brocade coats.the mix-and-don’t-match effect of this collection, for autumn/winter 2011, extended to the shoes and ankle-boots which came in a collage of coloured leather and python-skin, with stack heels in wood, metal, or clear Perspex the Russian theme was seen in peasant-dresses in blocks of up to six colours, with slightly raised waists, full sleeves, a square bodice, and a dirndl-style skirt; or in the Cossack-look tunics, with beaded sleeves or inserts of velvet.Van Noten’s finale cavalcade featured long, evening gowns in a kalei-doscope of multi-coloured, geometric, op Art, and floral printed silks, with gleaming, sequined bodices, and long trains sweeping the floor; and a “glam rock”, tuxedo suit, with velvet lapels and ultra-wide-legged trousers.

Gareth Pughthe collection, like the video, was inspired by the centuries-old tradition of Florentine art and culture, and referenced Catholic iconography in rich shades of deep-blue and gold. His autumn/winter 2011 collection was a dramatic continu-ation of the fashion video made by the British-based film-maker, Ruth Hogben, which was premiered at Pitti immag-

ine in Florence in January.Pugh staged his showing in the ecole des Beaux Arts, to a thunderous, pounding soundtrack which perfectly suited the stars Wars-style designs, razor-sharp in black leather and stretch, bisected with golden zips, and worn with fearsome wedge-sole boots, and “alien eyes” courtesy of what looked like the gold metallic “glasses” worn in a sun-tanning salon.Brilliant blue crepe and gleaming gold metallic sequins, em-broidered in a tile pattern, provided a colour burst to offset the midnight parade, while hooded “witches” cloaks, bright blue “eye shades” and teeth gleaming under the spotlights from LeD mouthpieces created the effect of creatures from a distant planet.

Lady Gaga for Mugler Lady gage stared as a catwalk supermodel for Nicola Formi-chetti’s Mugler womenswear debut.on a catwalk, designed to resemble a futuristic gothjc Cathe-dral, Lady gaga made two sensational appearances in white and boudoir-pink Latex corsetry and skintight, pencil skirts, smoking a cigarette, and balancing without any appearance of nerves on foot-high platform booties. Her coiffure, de-signed by the scottish hair stylist, sam McKnight, featured a chopped-off black fringe, and two, three-foot platinum “po-nytails”” .in her finale appearance, she roped herself to one of the gothic arches with a 20ft white chiffon train, as her current hit, ‘Born this Way’ thundered through the sound system.the Mugler brand has been revived by Lady gaga’s stylist, Nicola Formichetti.

RochasHis models wore astrakhan fur hats like those fa-

voured by the Afghan president, Hamid Karzai, rated by the designer, tom Ford, in 2002, as “the most chic

man in the world.”“it’s all about making chic exciting,” said Marco zani-ni, creative director of Rochas, after his uptown-smart, autumn/winter collection, in Paris this afternoon.take little, striped knits in navy and wine and pair them with silk skirts that flirt around the knees in soft pleats. Add a hint of uptown tailoring in steely grey with just a hint of shine.toss in a black brocade shift that turns into a beautiful cocoon shape at the back, and acces-sorise with fur gauntlet gloves. For a walk on the wild side, mix in leopard-print, A-line skirts and easy car-coats, with cashmere knits in the palest of beiges. And for those with a penchant for more colour punch, offer the same car-coats in a bold orange. For evening zanini’s new “Rochas woman”, favoured the palest of powder-toned peach and classic black, seen in short satin dresses with a ruffled “bra” bodice, or swooping, grand entrance gowns, either high-necked and sleeveless, or strapless, and featuring a billowing trained back or a a cascade of pleats - thus ensuring a grand exit, as well.

weekAt Marni we spot Jil Sander accessories front row and Anna Dello Russo in bright yellow pant & jacket!

At Pucci Anna Dello Russo and Brian Boy are wearing matching coats in different colours.

At Roberto Cavalli, paparaz-zi gets into a storm as Kelly Rowland arrives. The hair trend at cavalla this season is dirty look hair, its low maintenance but not sure we can translate this to real life.
