Message From the President
Dear Members, I will open with an apology on my part for delayed issue of this newsletter, things have been rather hectic over the past few months, so this newsletter will cover two months activity. We have had continued success of the SPWLA distinguished lecturer talks, which always pull a crowd of interested attendees followed by some very engaging discussion. Watch out for more of these through the year. As a reminder all our evening meetings are free to attend and require no registration. At the evening lecture on 7th April Shyam Ramaswami of Shell, and SPWLA Distinguished Lecturer 2013, gave a well attended talk entitled “Advanced reservoir evaluation using down- hole fluid analysis and asphaltene Flory-Huggins-Zuo equation of state”. At the evening lecture on 6th May Craig Lindsay of Core Specialist Services, and SPWLA Distinguished Lecturer 2013 and Past President of Society of Core Analysts, gave a talk which prompted much discussion entitled “EOR from Low Salinity Water Flooding: fact or fitcion”. This really highlighted the need for QC of core analysis and ensuring we have a good understanding of what we are measuring! On 17th June London Petrophysical Society will be holding a one day seminar entitled “Do you want more pay? What is net and pay, and the use and abuse of cutoffs”. We have a really good broad range of talks from service and operating companies, academics and consultrants covering everything from NMR to static and dynamic model methodology. London Petrophysical Society Newsletter Issue 04&05 2014
On Thursday 25th September 2014 the London Petrophysical Society will be holding a
one-day seminar entitled Drilling-101; Everything a Geoscientist needs to know about
Well Engineering but was afraid to ask at the Geological Society, Burlington House,
London. This is the latest in our line of "Basic FE" seminars, and is intended as an intro-
duction to Well Engineering for Petrophysicists and other Geoscientists. This one-day
seminar will provide a basic understanding and vocabulary for professionals from a wide-
variety of backgrounds and it should work to improve the way we can work together as a
team to achieve safe and successful wells.
This is a Call for Abstracts for presentations from Oil & Gas Companies, Service Com-
panies, Independent Consultants, Academia and other interested parties on the topic. The
seminar will consist of a series of themed talks each lasting between 20 and 25 minutes,
with five to ten minutes for questions. We also hope that we will be able to give a set of
the abstracts and the presentation slides (either as presented or edited) to the participants
after the event.

This seminar is intended for general technical interest (as opposed to sales or marketing)
and we request that the talks are kept technical in nature, with the use of generic rather
than trade names.
Abstracts should be up to 300 words and may include one or two illustrations and sub-
mitted in Word Document or Adobe PDF format.
