Recent Events Inspirational Woman! On International Women's Day, 8th March 2014, Connect PhD student Kelly Anne Bracewell was recognised with an 'Inspirational Woman Award' by Lancashire's Police and Crime Commissioner for her dedication to domestic violence services and her assistance provided to Lancashire County Council in consulting with young people about domestic vio- lence campaigns. New Research Professor Nicky Stanley has started work on two new projects: ESMI is a programme of research examining the effectiveness and cost effectiveness of perinatal mental health services. This five year pro- gramme funded by the National Institute for Health Research is led by Professor Louise Howard at King's College London and Nicky will be working with her and the ESMI team on a qualitative study of women's views and experiences of perinatal mental health care and on a study ex- amining the effectiveness of services for women with severe mental disor- ders. Nicky is also collaborating with Pro- fessor Cathy Humphreys at the Uni- versity of Melbourne on her new study addressing Fathering and Do- mestic Violence which is funded by the Australian Research Coun- cil. The research will be run in part- nership with a range of organisa- tions in Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia.

Inspirational Woman!

On International Women's Day, 8th

March 2014, Connect PhD student

Kelly Anne Bracewell was recognised

Dr Christine Barter

‘Online and offline forms of intimate partner

violence in young people’s relationships: Ini-

tial findings from the first European survey’ NSPCC Senior Research Fellow, University of Bristol.

Christine has published widely on a range of chil-

dren's welfare issues. Christine’s most recent work

has focused on the issue of peer violence including

violence in teenage relationships, undertaking the

first UK wide study in this area. Her work has attract-

ed substantial media, policy and practice attention.

FUNDED RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY FOR EARLY CAREER RESEARCHERS

The Connect Centre is delighted to announce an exiting new partnership with the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa and funded by the British Council. An International Workshop is to be held in March 2015 at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa led by Ingrid Palmary, African Centre for Migration & Society (ACMS), School of Social Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand, and Nicky Stanley, Connect Centre. This workshop will bring together about 40 researchers from across the UK and South Africa to identify differences and commonalities in the conditions informing violence to women and children in the two countries. This New Researcher Seminar Series will fund up to 20 early career researchers to travel to South Africa. We will shortly announce a call for abstracts.
