4 Issue Number 29 July 14, 2020 When is enough, enough? We live in a world that drives us to always have more, be more, get more. The idea of having enough and saying, I am content with what I haveis a foreign concept to most people I know. The rancher always wants more cale and a bigger herd. If they do not want more, they want beer cale and a more valuable herd. The farmer wants more land and beer crops. The banker wants more business and greater assets. The dad wants more for his family and beer things for them than he grew up with. Some achieve a great deal more than they ever had and some just dont seem to get ahead, even though they have food and clothing and a roof over their head. When is enough, enough? In Mahew 6, Jesus said that if we would seek first the kingdom of Heaven and Gods righteousness, what we need to eat, drink, and wear would be provided for us. But, is that enough for us today? In a world that drives us to have a nicer home, nicer car, beer things, and things to have fun with, when do we come to the point that we say, I am fully content with what I have. For most people that day never comes. They work and struggle to get more and more, regardless of what they already have, and they die always desiring more. In the Book of Proverbs, we see these words: Proverbs 30:7-9 Two things I request of You (Deprive me not before I die): Remove falsehood and lies far from me;SP Give me neither poverty nor riches- Feed me with the food alloed to me; Lest I be full and deny You, And say, Who is the Lord?Or lest I be poor and steal, And profane the name of my God. There is great wisdom in these words. If we seek to be rich, we will lose sight of who God is in our wealth because we see only what our wealth provides and not the hand of the Lord. If we have too lile, we will turn from the Lord to get what we need by doing whatever it takes to get it. To be in great abundance is a danger just the same as being in great need. So, what is beer for me? What we truly need in life is food for a day, clothing for the day (whether hot or cold), and a roof over our head to give shelter when needed. If you are blessed with more than you need, be willing to stay focused on the Lord even though you know He may tell you to give some of your abundance to those who have lile. If you are in need, Seek first the Kingdom of Heaven and Gods righteousness…” and He will provide for you. Regardless of the state you are in, let me encourage you to keep your eyes on the Father and allow Him to work in you and through you. Today as we trust the Lord, let us say, Enough is enough.Pete

When is enough, enough? We live in a world that drives us to always have more, be more, get more. The idea of having enough and saying, “I am content with what I have” is a foreign concept to most people I know. The rancher always wants more cattle and a bigger herd. If they do not want more, they want better cattle and a more valuable herd. The farmer wants more land and better crops. The banker wants more business and greater assets. The dad wants more for his family and better things for them than he grew up with. Some achieve a great deal more than they ever had and some just don’t seem to get ahead, even though they have food and clothing and a roof over their head.

When is enough, enough? In Matthew 6, Jesus said that if we would seek first the kingdom of Heaven and God’s righteousness, what we need to eat, drink, and wear would be provided for us. But, is that enough for us today? In a world that drives us to have a nicer home, nicer car, better things, and things to have fun with, when do we come to the point that we say, “I am fully content with what I have.”

For most people that day never comes. They work and struggle to get more and more, regardless of what they already have, and they die always desiring more. In the Book of Proverbs, we see these words:

Proverbs 30:7-9 Two things I request of You (Deprive me not before I die): Remove falsehood and lies far from me;SP Give me neither poverty nor riches- Feed me with the food allotted to me; Lest I be full and deny You, And say, “Who is the Lord?” Or lest I be poor and steal, And profane the name of my God.

There is great wisdom in these words. If we seek to be rich, we will lose sight of who God is in our wealth because we see only what our wealth provides and not the hand of the Lord. If we have too little, we will turn from the Lord to get what we need by doing whatever it takes to get it. To be in great abundance is a danger just the same as being in great need. So, what is better for me?

What we truly need in life is food for a day, clothing for the day (whether hot or cold), and a roof over our head to give shelter when needed. If you are blessed with more than you need, be willing to stay focused on the Lord even though you know He may tell you to give some of your abundance to those who have little. If you are in need, “Seek first the Kingdom of Heaven and God’s righteousness…” and He will provide for you. Regardless of the state you are in, let me encourage you to keep your eyes on the Father and allow Him to work in you and through you.

Today as we trust the Lord, let us say, “Enough is enough.” Pete

Backyard Bible Club!! For kids PreK-6th Grade (completed) Sunday nights in July-6:00-7:30 pm

We hope you’ll join us for “Mission: Deep Sea” as we dive into learning about our faith and how to grow it!

“Grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.” Ephesians 3:18

Alan’s Notes

I have ridden many

100-mile bicycle

rides or “Centuries”

over the years.

One thing each of the

century rides I have

done has in common is

the rest stops on the

way. Even though the

ride is difficult because

of its length, the rest

stops break it up in such

a way as to make it seem easier. You can

get off the bike, eat some refreshing snacks,

refill your water bottles and commiserate

with fellow riders. Since we have begun to

deal with the Coronavirus, I have felt like I

have been on a century ride with no rest

stop in sight and I am weary of it. Mental

health professionals have labeled it “virus

fatigue.”

Now we are planning and gearing up

for Fall/Winter activities and we still don’t

have a sufficient resolution to be able to

predict the flow of activity versus disruption.

This makes it more difficult to plan. Praise

God that as believers, we have an

advantage over people without faith. We

have the Word of God to give us solace,

strength and hope. For instance, Proverb

16:9 states, “A man’s heart plans his way,

But the Lord directs his steps.” How

refreshing that little scripture is to my heart.

As I plan with an unusually unstable future

ahead, I can know that as I draw near to

God, He will direct my steps each day.

We sang a brand-new song in worship

yesterday entitled, Christ our Hope in Life

and Death. That song reminds us that our

hope as believers is not centered in this

world, but rather in Christ Alone! I hope

during these uncertain times, you have

found your stability in the rock-solid truth of

Jesus Christ. He never fails!

Anchored in our Immovable God,

Brother Alan

Stefan’s Thoughts O ur students had an amazing time at Buffalo Creek

Lodge playing gaga ball, cornhole, fishing, and fun cooling off in the pond. It was a great time of fellowship together and really helped in unifying our students.

If you receive this edition of the Spire in time, I would like to ask that you pray for our students and other students in our area that will be attending the Falls Creek Road Show tonight. The gospel message will be preached by Brian Mills and Cody Dunbar will be leading us in worship. We will also hear testimony from Caleb & Jeremy Freeman and students will learn of mission opportunities for the summer of 2021. Please pray that many would come to know the saving power of our Lord Jesus Christ and lives would be forever changed.

This week we continued our series about reaching out to people on the fringes—the disadvantaged, the overlooked, the poor, the suffering, and the outcast.

In this second lesson, we explored Matthew 25:31 -46,

where Jesus talked about two groups of people at the day of judgment: sheep, who faithfully served “the least of these”; and goats, who failed to put their faith into action. The sheep showed compassion to people on the fringes—even though they didn ’t realize that serving these people was like serving Jesus. The goats didn ’t serve these people at all. The sheep weren ’t trying to impress anyone—they simply served because they SAW the needs, LOVED the people, and were willing to SERVE by helping meet their needs. They didn ’t ignore the problems of their world.

This week, I encourage you to spend a few minutes talking with your teenager(s) about our lesson. Here are some questions you might want to ask:

• Imagine being in need of food, shelter, or clothing—why would that be so difficult for you?

• Jesus has such a deep love for “the least of

these”—why do so many people in our world NOT have a deep love for these same people?

• Why does Jesus care about our motives for reaching out to people on the fringes?

• What can I do to help you become more aware of

people ’s needs? Know that I ’m praying for and your family this week!
