Our ship left Freemantle on 29th May and headed into the Indian Ocean for our 7 sea days as we headed

North the weather was getting a lot warmer, 7 sea days gives a chance for all passengers to settle in as

the ship becomes a home away from home. The ship has happy hour between 3-4pm TWO drinks for the

price of ONE, the more you drink the more you save, so you can imagine how everyone gets together in

    the Wheelhouse lounge.

As Princess is celebrating 50 years as a Cruise company all couples celebrating their Golden Anniversary

we were invited to a cocktail party with the Captain and there were 25 couples which made it special.

As we neared Colombo there was an announcement that the following morning we had to carry out a PI-

RACY DRILL!! As pirates have been known to attack ships in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Oman and

Somalia . . . water canons were out also a machine that emits a high frequency sounds that bursts their

ear drums. We had a nice days in Colombo and got a Tut Tut which is a 3 wheel 2 stroke vehicle and

visited Hindu and Buddist temples which were a bit out of the way and Tourists don't usually get to.

After Colombo and into the Arabian Sea we ran into a cyclone, the next few days the Captain had to go off

course to dodge it but it kept finding the ship so we had very rough seas (6 metre waves). We arrived in

Dubai 4 hours late to very hot weather (44 degrees). We caught a shuttle bus and went to a mall where

we did some shopping and was glad to get a taxi back to our air-conditioned ship in time for happy hour.

About 300 passengers got off in Dubai and new ones came on.

“Overnighted” in Dubai and we left at noon heading to Muscat (Mina Qaboos).

We are having a great time and once again the entertainment, food and company are great. The most

travelled passengers have done 1700 sea days, so there's some serious cruisers!! We have now passed

through the Suez Canal and cruising our way across the Mediterranean Sea.

Thanks to all our friends who have kept in touch via email — really love getting news from home.

Catch more in the next issue of Without Bias as Ray and Mirella continue their round the world cruise.

Ever helpful Peter Keogh is seen here giving his guidance to Ignacy Wierzbowski on how to cope on your own when your wife is oversea. “It’s a fine balancing act and one that Peter knows all about.” Leoni is on holiday in Poland with her sister to see their mother who is 89 years old. They are staying in a town called Stalowa Wola and having a wonder-ful time. In the mean time, it’s up to the Friday night chefs to help Ignacy out with a three choice menu for only $8.

    Gloria has

    a busy

schedule Whilst we are all freez-ing in good old Mel-bourne our Interna-tionally qualified um-pire Gloria Norman is up North working at the Australian Open in sunny Queensland. Gloria is an Interna-tionally qualified Um-pire for Lawn Bowls. Gloria has been kept extremely busy, almost run off her feet. At Mermaid Beach she was head I.T.O. for the first 6 days and every other day, her role was umpiring top National and International play-ers. The weather has been cool, with a little rain, with play run under a different format. Gloria has given a considerable amount of time conducting semi-nars for prospective bowlers/markers/um-pires, one per season over many years at Keilor Bowls Club. Participants were from other areas as well as our own, as her high standards and support to gain these standards were well known and respected. Gloria continued her own study and hands on work in this area as well as her bowling at Keilor. As this edition of With-out Bias goes out to our readers Gloria is writ-ing a number of arti-cles for coming edi-tions, including “early bowls, made of wood”. “The Australian Open.” and “The Ever Shorter Skirts worn by Some Females” Gloria certainly de-serves her time in the sun.

Young Joshua Leszczyn-ski, "Chips" had a Blue Ribbon day at his school sports carnival earlier this month. Joshua competed in the under eight events and won the 100 and 200 metre running races, the long jump and the shot put came second in the hurdles and fifth in the high jump. This capped off a very suc-cessful week for Chips on the sporting field and fol-lowed on from Sunday when he kicked two goals while playing for the New-port Power under nines side. Joshua is looking forward to getting on the bowls green again in the coming season and playing with his Pa and his Dad who is transferring to Keilor this coming season

Photo shows Joshua proudly wearing his prize ribbons.

Due to the last action packed edition of Without Bias there was no room for this item. A couple of weeks ago we held a wake/funeral at the club on a Wednesday afternoon.

I hope the bowlers who played that day were not inconvenienced too much.

It's very hard to know when these inquires are made, which way to go, as the week before

    the game was washed out.

If we don't take the booking the club misses out on much needed funds.

So I took a chance, explained to the match committee what was happening, and hoped we

    could all work in together.

Not only did the booking bring in funds to the club, 4 people who attended that day join-

ed as social members with an interest to bowl.

From another booking the Federal Member for CALWELL Ms Maria Vamvakinou has also joined as a social member.

I believe exposure to the club is important and you never know where a "New Member-

ship" is likely to come from.

the company of Pat Black and Maureen Sutton.

On Tues. 9th June the ladies and

(one token gent) enjoyed the musi-

cal "Anything Goes" . A bright show with some of Cole

Porters' best & well known num-

    bers.

We all left the show tapping our feet

(except the gent) after an afternoon

    of wonderful music & dancing.

MEMBERS. We are fortunate to have a number of new bowlers at

Keilor. Some of these members are taking up our sport for the first

time. These bowlers are under instruction of our qualified coach –

Darren Cox. Darren is spending a considerable amount of time with

these bowlers instructing them in the skills of our game, and whilst it

is appreciated that other members offer these new bowlers support, it

would also be appreciated if the finer points of the game are left to

the coaching sessions with Darren. This will enable the bowlers to

put into action what they are being taught in a structured way.

Seven year old Jett Simmons a champion The young boy who has taken the 2015 Australian Open by storm, Jett’s effort has gained plenty of attention nationally. He has found himself in the headlines of local papers, The Courier Mail and the Gold Coast Bulle-tin plus Channel 9. The lad from Fitzroy teamed up to win their section of the men’s pairs. Also from Fitzroy Tiff Brodie found her way to the busi-ness end of the competition.

If you know of any junior interested in playing for Keilor Bowls Club please contact Keith Hinks or Darren Cox.

After a week of work activity, what better than a few hours of fun and cheerio at our Friday Night Happy Hour. And it’s fabulous to see a few new faces. From left to right, Aldo Montaldo, Russell Johnson, Jason Knowles, Peter Kistler, Marc and Helen Fiala, enjoying our club.

Glenda Mullen holding her two size 18 double D’s she won on the popular chook wheel on Friday night.

Bob Scash who runs the wheel said Double D’s are much the preferred size.

Hayley Philpott was beaming with joy to be able to have a game of in door carpet

bowls with her new friend Cruz Dudding-

    ton, last Friday night.

Have you ever thought who’s job it was to change the light globes on top of the Eureka Tower! Leading electrician Elvis Kliman it seems didn’t use the proper ‘procedure’ ladder when he did the job last week and fell all the way to the ground. Sheer guts and determination saw him back at our club on Friday night to explain exactly what happened. Not his fault. Well done Elvis.

PENNANT PROMOTION At a recent joint meeting of the BOM and Bowls Committee

of our Club it was decided to enter the following teams for

Saturday & Midweek Pennant for season 2015/16.

Saturday Pennant - 6 Sides Midweek Pennant - 3 Mixed Sides It must be said that it is with great regret that we are

unable to field a Ladies only Side in the coming season

This comes about due to the loss of three good players

and the fact that there are a number of ladies who wish

    to play Mixed Pennant.

Our lack of depth in ladies wishing to play in our No. 1

Ladies Side was shown last season when we had a short-

age due to health problems and had female members of

our club refusing to fill in.

This decision was not made lightly and with the results of

a Midweek Ladies Survey taken as to their preferred wis-

hes - Ladies or Mixed plus the names of those already

    committed to playing next season.

This decision also took into account those players who

have already advised holiday plans and medical proce-

dures which will mean that they will be unavailable for

periods of time. Then there is the unknown factor and

    the need for emergency players.

On the bright side we have one new female bowler com-

mitted to Midweek Pennant and two male players who

are also new bowlers to our Club.

Pennant Teams have to be submitted to Bowls Victoria

    by the 1st. July.

Our Sides will be submitted on the number of names

provided on the sheet at the Club.

If you are unable to do this please advise the Bowls Sec-

retary by email or telephone of your decision - to play or

not to play and whether your interest is Saturday or Mid-

    week Pennant, or both.

Further under the new system those members who nom-

inated for Selection for Midweek Pennant have been th-

rough the interview phase with 1 withdrawal - Lyn Martin.

Midweek Pen. Sides now have four selectors; Joan Wil-

son, Cyd Wilson, June McInerney & Lorraine Henneken.

Please don't delay in making your decision on Pennant and notifying the Bowls Secretary.
