Dear Parents and Carers, Last newsletter I wrote about the clay club and it has generated much interest in the school about other clubs and why we operate them. The clubs are designed to be part of our focus on Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). SEL helps to provide students with the opportunity to gain greater social and emotional awareness and to practice interpersonal skills as they learn and grow. It can help students develop the understanding, strategies and skills that support a positive sense of self, promote respectful relationships and build student capacity to recognise and manage their own emotions and make responsible decisions. Further, according to the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL), quality teaching of SEL promotes student satisfaction, success and academic engagement, outcomes and achievement. The lunchtime clubs offered at Sacred Heart give students the opportunity to engage and participate in activities that they enjoy and are passionate about. The teachers run clubs, in some cases with the support of the yr6 student leaders, for the students as places where they can feel connected and part of a group who share similar interests. We are so lucky at Sacred Heart that we have dedicated, enthusiastic and talented staff who are willing to share their skills with our students! Some of our clubs allow students to find a quiet and calm place where they are able to share their gifts and talents with others. Other clubs allow students the opportunity to try something new and uncover a hidden passion or just have fun. The lunchtime clubs and activities may change each term which allows for a range of activities to be explored. The clubs being offered this term include: clay club (pottery) sports skipping construction/Lego/games dance junior book club senior book club chess

Clubs: A Great Opportunity!

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last newsletter I wrote about the clay club and it has generated much interest in the school about other clubs and why we operate them.

The lunchtime clubs and activities may change each term which allows for a range of activities to

be explored. The clubs being offered this term include:

● clay club (pottery)

● sports

● skipping

● construction/Lego/games

● dance

● junior book club

● senior book club

● chess

Plans for gardening and coding are underway for later in the year. Parents who have an expertise, that

could be linked into a club and would like to volunteer their time to regularly support a club for the

children, please contact Jan Morice or myself. Teachers are rostered on to assist volunteering parents

during the playtime or the lunchtime clubs.

Traffic – Parking – Please see excerpts below from our Traffic-Parking booklet

for the safety of our students.

‘No Stopping’

Parking in a ‘No Stopping’ zone is dangerous and reduces visibility

for other motorists on busy roads. It also impedes traffic flow and

causes congestion.

Do not park in ‘No Stopping’ zones.

Gutter / Kerb Side Drop Off

of the road. Always check for pedestrians or obstructions before

opening the car door.

Too dangerous
