Weekly Publication for Middle School Parents

    Dear Parents:

The first full week back to school has been fantastic. From our numerous classroom visits, we have observed that the studentsare quickly settling in and getting down to the business of learning. We are proud of all of the students for putting their bestfoot forward.

One of our school-wide priorities this year is to focus on the development of blogs as a communication tool. Through theirindividual blogs, teachers will be making posts on a weekly basis. There are various levels of skill among our teachers, and aswe develop the blogs as a communication tool, we thank you for your patience. In Middle School we are excited by thepossibilities that blogging offers to strengthen home-school communication.

Further to keeping the lines of communication open, it is vital that the school has the most current contact information for each

family in the event of an emergency or school closure. In order to update your contact information, please access your accountthrough PowerParent and submit the updated details online. If you do not know your PowerSchool password, please contact MSGuidance or the MS Office.

As the school year gets underway, please take note of the following points:

After school activities are a great way to strengthen skills, explore new interests and meet new people. We encourage allstudents to get involved and commit to a particular club. Please take some time to review the selections with your childand help them make responsible choices. After school activities begin on August 26. In the meantime, please make thenecessary transportation arrangements so that your child is picked up promptly at dismissal time.

In addition to academics, we aim to support our students in becoming self-directed individuals who assume responsibilityfor themselves and their actions. We would like to see all of our students in proper uniform and to be punctual for class. Can you please reinforce this sense of responsibility with your child.

At dismissal time MS students are instructed to wait for their car/driver at the designated drop-off/pick-up areas. As

policy, helpers and drivers are not permitted to wait for students in the halls or by classrooms.

On Tuesday, August 17 we will be hosting the Middle School Open House. Please visit the MS Media Center starting at 4:00 topick up your childs class schedule. The Open House will formally begin in the Fine Arts Theater at 5:00 P.M. with a briefwelcome and introduction. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to run through your childs class schedule and meet theteachers. Please plan to attend this evening event.

On Thursday, August 19 we will be hosting a New Parent Coffee in room 1057 starting at 7:45 A.M. This will be an opportunityto meet other families and learn more about life in the Middle School. Please join us if you are available. We look forward towelcoming new families to the ISM Middle School.

On Monday August 23 school will be closed to commemorate Ninoy Aquino Day. Classes resume on Tuesday, August 24. Enjoythe 3-day weekend!

    Dear Middle School Parents:

On Tuesday, 17 August, from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm, the Middle School will be hosting its annual

Open House for all parents of Middle School students. The evening will begin in the Fine Arts

Theater with a welcome from the Middle School Administration and an opportunity to meet mem-bers of the PTA. We cordially invite you to attend!

Your childs schedule can be picked up outside the Middle School Media Center as early as 4:00 pm

on Tuesday, 17 August. Light refreshments will be served in the Fine Arts Lobby starting at 4:30

pm, with welcoming remarks in the Fine Arts Theater at 5:00 pm.

After the welcoming remarks, the remainder of the evening will be devoted to visiting classrooms

and meeting your childs teachers. You will be following your childs class schedule throughoutthe evening, with ten minutes allotted for each period and five minutes passing time between

    classes.

Please be reminded that the goal of our Open House is for you to meet the teachers and learn

more about their class expectations; it is not a time for individual parent conferences. Teachers

will be making their presentations and we appreciate your cooperation in allowing them to focus

on speaking to the group rather than focusing on individual student needs at this time.

We look forward to meeting you at our Open House.

    Sincerely,

    DANIELLE FREDERICKS CLARISSA SAYSON

*Please make sure to look for the new Grade Five Art Mural

We are Responsible for Changing the Future of our

World! Last year the grade five second semester art stu-

dents created individual life map paintings, in the style of

Australian Aboriginals and came up with the overlying

theme about Sustainability. The vivid and bold project is on

display in the middle school office corridor.

*Please save your plastic lids from bottles (water/ Gator-

ade) and bring them to Room 1188 for Ms. Morgan. We will

be creating a new recycled structure from these bottle

    tops/lids.

*As always make sure to visit the student art website to see
