PRESIDENTS REPORT
All things considered, I believe 2017 was an-
other good year for the Indian Harley Club.
We had many interesting outings, in weather
that wasn’t at all bad for riding, and we even
went on some new roads and ended up at a
new destination.
Those who hit the road the day after Boxing
Day can strike one thing off their bucket
lists…they can say that they’ve been to Woop
Woop! A new destination for the club, and for
me, riding out through Cardiff and MacAlin-
den was also some new roads.
Thanks to Dave Lind for that experience.
The last 12 months has brought a number of
new members into the club, and I hope you are
all enjoying being an Indian Harley Club
member. January the first has come and gone,
so I hope you have all renewed your member-
ships, otherwise you should not be riding any
Code 404 registered machines.
For 2018, we again have a pretty full calendar
of events, so there should be something to suit
everybody. If not, stick up your hand, talk to
the Captain and organise whatever you think is
missing.
The Two Day Rally is just 2 months away now
and I know preparations are going full bore for
that.
Lastly, thank you to your club committee for
making things easy for me over the last year,
and I look forward to the next 6 months of
working with you all again.
CAPTAINS REPORT 1/18
Well 2017 is done & dusted now we are gal-
loping into 2018 with another busy year ahead.
Midweek PM. 13/12/2017. 23 Riders 3 Pas-
sengers.
Vice-Captain Leigh lead the troops today
around Dardanup West, Crooked Brook, Fer-
guson, Dardanup and Paradise to Sth West
Hwy before finishing at Captain’s place for
Christmas afternoon tea which everyone said
they enjoyed although someone in a sidecar
complained about the bumpy Wireless Rd, sor-
ry but it wasn’t bumpy in the car when I drove
down there. Thanks to Wilma & Margaret G.
for helping out.
Busso Mid-Week (Christmas Breakfast)
Ride.
Well, what a turn out! Surpassed all estimates,
I believe there was 43 at the breakfast, at Sen-
sations Café though I did not get to count
them, we estimated about 25 or so, we ran café
staff off their feet a bit but they handled it
well, I thought.
There were 18 bikes turned up at the 7:30 start
on what was one of the best days you could
imagine for riding a motorbike, it was superb,
unfortunately for one ride he did not get past
the start “gearbox/kick starter problems” so
one of the other riders went and got his trailer
for him and they went straight to the café.
The rest set of for our short ride of about 50K
down Bussell Hwy L into Chain Av and L at
Vasse Yallingup Rd, then back along Bussell
Bypass to Tuart Dr, L at Layman Rd to Sensa-
tions Café for our breakfast, when we got there
I was pleasantly surprised to see so many
bikes and members cars that had gone straight
to the breakfast.
![Page 5: ISSUE FEBRUARY 2018 - Wild Apricot · 2018. 1. 26. · 0432973837 president@ihc.asn.au Vice President -Bert SYKES 0400799947 vice.president@ihc.asn.au Web Site Manager -John PRESLAND](https://reader031.fdocuments.us/reader031/viewer/2022011918/5ffebf97d93f273b977ddcfb/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)

The food and the service was very good, we
all enjoyed the breakfast and of course the chit
-chat, Phil gave a little speech thanking every-
one for coming and handed out a little bag of
Christmas treats to everyone (I think he might
have been a bit short, under estimated a bit).
The second half of our ride had to be cut
short, because it took longer than we thought
for breakfast, some went home after the break-
fast, the rest (about 20) set off along Layman
Rd through town and out Chapman Hill Rd, R
into Doyle Rd, L at Queen Elizabeth Ave
along Payne Rd, R into North Jindong Rd, L
into Bussell Hwy. R into Wildwood Rd to An-
niebrook Flower Farm for morning tea. (I
think it is now just called “Anniebrook”).
Once again, we enjoyed a coffee and a chin-
wag at a very pleasant and tranquil setting.
From there we all headed our own way home
arriving at Busselton just after midday, Bun-
bury mob would have been home by 1PM. A
most enjoyable morning to see 2017 out, one I
will not forget. Peter
Mid-week AM Ride. 27/12/17. 28 Riders 3
Passengers
Today’s ride to Woop Woop was planned by
Dave Lind and with fantastic riding weather it
was a very successful event. The riders headed
to Collie via Ferguson Rd and Pile Ride with a
20-minute break in Collie, then travelling to
McAlinden Rd, Donnybrook/Boyup Brook Rd
to the thriving metropolis of Wilga.
Much to everyone disappointment there is no
actual sign for Woop Woop as it is locality in
which Wilga is located. However, everyone
was very merry after Christmas and had a
great old time chatting and eating.
After most of the food had been demolished 4
flustered riders arrived having been in
McDonalds, when the group departed Collie,
because they were too busy eating and drink-
ing. Thanks very much to Dave for suggesting
ride to an interesting place also for organising
route, to Margaret & Neville for back-up and
last but not least to Wilma for helping.
Busselton Mid-week Ride. 3/1/18
Today we had what is probable one of the best
rollups for a Busso mid-week ride for some
time, 24 bikes in all, and one was a visitor and
there were 2 passengers; great turn out on a
mild summers day.
My Englishman friend “John” put this ride to-
gether and took the lead on what was to be
quite a long ride before we had morning tea
(or where we were supposed to have morning
tea) 110Ks I think it was a bit longer than he
though!
We headed out Chapman Hill Rd after navi-
gating through town, R at Ambergate Rd all
the way to Rendezvous Rd turning L, navi-
gated our way through Vasse heading along
Vasse Yallingup Rd, R at Wildwood Rd L at
Abbeys Farm Rd, L at Puzey Rd, turns in to
Harmans Mill Rd, R at Tom Cullity Dr, L at
Miamup Rd, R at Brockman Rd, L into Caves
Rd, L at Carters Rd, R into Bussell Hwy,
through Margaret River, R at Boodjidup Rd, R
into Exmoor Rd and turns in to Glenellie Rd.
L at Caves Rd, R into Rainbow Rd, R at Yates
Rd, L at Wilderness Rd, L at Wallcliffe Rd to
the White Elephant Café.
Unfortunately, when we got there the place
was packed and we decided to go to Yaharva
at Margaret River for our coffee, some of the
riders decided they had had enough and head-
ed home.
After our coffee, we headed up Bussell Hwy
to Cowaramup and stopped for a drink and a
pie, by this time we were down to about half
the group with some heading straight home.
From there we headed home via Jindong-
Treeton Rd, Payne Rd. Kaloorup Rd arriving

at Busselton about 2 PM. A great ride even
though it was a bit late getting our coffee and
PIES, and thanks John for your effort must
have taken quite a bit of working out. Peter
Whiteside.
Hi there, Enjoyed the ride today, Pommie John
worked out another great ride for all of us.
Good on him. Got mixed up at the end, but
made it home, safe & sound. Cheers Helgo.

LICENSING LIAISON OFFICERS RE-
PORT
Report - Licensing Liaison Officer/ Machine
Registrar 9/1/18.
Good Evening – Firstly my report is not di-
rected at all of you present here tonight, nor is
it directed at the members who have put in
their effort over the years and have reached the
stage where they need to take a step back from
most events, nor those who contribute in many
other ways that the majority don’t see.
Due to the events over the last couple of
weeks in chasing up members who have
demonstrated their lack of commitment to a
very valuable club membership - my report is
directed at those who seem to think that the
IHC is just a way to get a cheap license for
their bike and a free ride at the expense of the
rest of the membership of this wonderful club.
These are the members we rarely see, the ones
who demand a printed copy of the newsletter
every month and never even bother to open it,
let alone read it! At a couple of dollars a
month that is an administrative cost to all of
you of half of their membership fee.
Other admin costs are gobbled up rapidly in
maintaining our obligation as a club to inform
them of current situations, overdue fees, web-
site costs and generally trying to make them
feel part of the family. This is often thrown
back in our faces by their non-attendance, ig-
noring communication on a regular basis and
failure to pay their annual fees without consid-
erable work by our committee members.
I am not alone in my belief that these members
are a liability to this club and I will be raising
the issue at committee level next week to see
what we can do to remove or reduce this blight
on the future of our club - and I seek your
support in this matter - thankyou. Jeff Smith

GENERAL BUSINESS
Honorary Membership for Mike Reeve. It has
come to the notice of the club that another of
our very senior members will not be renewing
his membership in the coming year, mostly
due to age and the difficulty of getting around.
Mike Reeve has been a member of this club
since 1986, and for most of those years, he has
been an active and conscientious

member, taking part in many of our rides and
functions. For many years, he drove back-up
on the 2 Day Rally. He has also been a com-
mittee member of the Brunswick Agricultural
Society for many years and was always keen to
have us display our bikes at their annual show.
Mike will turn 90 this year, and has sold all his
bikes. In line with current club policy, I would
like to see him elevated to Honorary Member-
ship of this club, in respect of his many years
as a committed club member, to keep him in-
formed of what our club is doing and to keep
him involved, should he wish to do so.
Before I propose the motion, does anyone wish
to say anything either for or against the matter?
The proposal is as follows:
Proposed by Glenda Patterson, seconded by
John Presland, that Mr Mike Reeve be made
an Honorary Member of the Indian Harley
Club, with consideration for renewal at the
next AGM.
A reminder to all members for the Australia
Day Breakfast commencing at Fettlers Park
Boyanup at 7am. To be followed by a ride.
2 Day Rally, Bert is seeking to borrow a num-
ber of bbqs (and full gas bottles), please con-
tact Bert if able to help. A reminder that entries
close on Feb 9.
Graeme Squires from Mandurah reported on
their involvement with the memorial for Clive
Marwick.
John Keenan reported the Gingergolds Cele-
bration of all things Vintage in Donnybrook on
30 December was a success and the organisers
send their thanks for those who attended.
Graeme Squires advised the Mandurah Mob
Meander will be held 24 – 25 Feb. Meet & ride
Sat, Accommodation at Fairbridge, Sun AM

durah mob for further details and to register.

with re-banding a sprocket. Bernie McCor-
mack volunteered to help.

to his 1995 BMW R100.

2017 MANJI MOB CHRISTMAS EVE
BREAKFAST RUN
Christmas Eve, Sunday December 24 dawned
with sunshine and blue skies in Manji. What a
great day for a run.
As the breakfast venue, Blackwood Café at
Nannup didn’t open until 8.30am this year, de-
parture time was a gentlemanly 7.30am, so rid-
ers gained an hour’s sleep-in.
By departure time, 10 IHC members mounted
up with one passenger, including a few old
school boys who had trailered down from
Bunbury. Guests mounted up on 30 bikes with
2 passengers, a total of 40 bikes covering
many years and makes with 3 passengers.
What a turn out.
Roons provided a pre-run talk, covering safe
riding and reminded our guests that it was a
‘slow run’, and led off on his 1929 Arial, set-
ting a brisk ‘age related’ pace, meaning
![Page 10: ISSUE FEBRUARY 2018 - Wild Apricot · 2018. 1. 26. · 0432973837 president@ihc.asn.au Vice President -Bert SYKES 0400799947 vice.president@ihc.asn.au Web Site Manager -John PRESLAND](https://reader031.fdocuments.us/reader031/viewer/2022011918/5ffebf97d93f273b977ddcfb/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)

most modern bikes didn’t get past 3rd gear to
Nannup. Additionally, Roons good wife Ma-
ree drove back up with a mate, as Roons rec-
ord in a number of years to return from the
run ‘riding’ was somewhat dismal.
Pushing his bike into the scrub and covering it
with a few branches on previous runs had be-
come a little too common. (I have to say, I did
enjoy riding pillion behind Trav on the Harley
in previous years after leaving a bike in the
scrub, but he must not have, as he brought his
good wife Karen as pillion this year, putting
an end to my ‘joy rides’)…
We were stoked to find on arrival at Nannup
after a great run through the majestic karri for-
est an additional 12 IHC members plus a pas-
senger who had ridden from Bunbury, Bussel-
ton, Mandurah (Chick on his new Indian – big
effort) and elsewhere to join us for brekky.
What a gathering of machinery with a grand
total of 23 IHC bikes with 3 passengers plus
30 guests’ bikes with 2 passengers. 58 for
brekky had the Blackwood Café in full over-
drive, however they did a marvellous job, and
everyone was very happy with the brekky.
Everyone had a good yarn and convivial catch
-up and then headed home to all points of the
compass. No known hiccups, however of note
was the gent on the Nannup-Bridgetown Road
who waved down our backup vehicle. Being
‘Christian’ Maree pulled over, however when
they saw old mate was sucking on a UDL at
8am (and not his first by the look of him), and
they were two lonesome gals running tail end
Charlie on our run, they chose to continue on
– with ‘Bangalo Forest’ and ‘Mick Taylor’
coming to mind. Hey, it’s the deep woods out
that way, I could accept an export, but a
UDL!!
Anyway, you’ll be pleased to hear that this
year the Arial made it home – albeit with an
inch of oil left in the tank. Comment had been
made at Nannup if the Arial was a war model
– as the smoke emitted enroute would have
been great cover in the trenches. How nasty –
but true. So my new year starts off with bikes
off the road, again… Never mind.
A good run and the Manji Mob will take this
opportunity to thank all for attending and to
wish all a happy and healthy 2018, and don’t
forget to keep the rubber side down.
All the best, the Manji Mob.
