LIfe IN CoLouR’s Most Beautiful Woman?Beyoncé, married to rapper Jay-Z, credits the January birth of daughter Blue Ivy Carter as her beauty secret.“I feel more beautiful than I’ve ever felt because I’ve given birth,” the 30-year-old singer said.“I have never felt so connected, never felt like I had such a purpose on this Earth”.Last Month Mrs Jay Z Carter was named People Magazine’s most beautiful woman 2012, which led Life in Colour to think about the British equivalent. Now you may think we do not have that much people to choose from but hold on a minute if we open our minds to all genres of entertainment what does that give us? Did you ever notice Anjula Mutanda that gorgeous psychologist who would pop up on Big Brother, analysing those wannabe desperado’s, embarrassing themselves for the promise of fame and fortune? Consultant psychologist and mental health expert, life and careers coach, and social scientist- with a wealth of experience Anjula is also seen offering her expertise on BBC Breakfast TV, The Wright Stuff, The One Show and much more. She’s definitely not just a pretty face.

23 year old X Factor winner Alexander Burke is also a close contender despite her personal problems with rumours that a model kissed and exposed her footballer boyfriend Jermaine Defoe’s secret hotel romp. She’s a great singer, tenacious, ambitious and definitely beautiful. New single, ‘Let it Go’ is out 27th of this month. So what do you think? From actresses, to singers, professionals in the public eye, to poets and leaders, who would you vote as London’s most beautiful Woman. Let us know… [email protected].

“You think England is hard? Compared to Nigeria? My dear, you haven’t seen anything yet!”On holiday with her streetwise son in Lagos, a British-Nigerian mother is in turmoil. Should she leave her only

child in a strict Lagos boarding school, or return him to the battlefields of inner London? An exuberant and thought-provoking mix of comedy, tragedy

and family drama, Pandora’s Box reveals the heartbreak behind the difficult choices some parents must make – and the price their children pay.Arcola tent, 9-12th May. tickets: £10-£14020 7503 1646, www.arcolatheatre.com

I am driving on the motorway listening to instructions from my sat nav as I

head towards Basingstoke to sing at a charity event with the band I’m in. 5.30pm is call time and luckily the Tom Tom says I’ll make it, although I had to take two comfort breaks along the way and one of them I did a bit of an unnecessary girlie shopping. Funny but as soon as I hit the motorway I get the desperate urge to go. Eventually the machine says I’m at my destination but why am I facing a field on one side and a barn on the other? It’s chucking down with rain and there is no one around to ask for direction. As I don’t usually trust these things I had borrowed another such similar device from my bro’ and after reprogramming both gadgets (crazy I know) at last I arrive late at a plush hotel. After sound checking with the band the promoters stingily lay on a spread of dry, cheese sandwiches while the guests have a delicious 3-course meal complete with a gorgeous chocolate cake. Anyway,

I’m not here for the freeness it’s all about the money. So we do our gig, which was disappointing because the corporate crowd just chatted through out the 2 hour set which never usually happens. I find solace in the fact that I’m recording my own original songs the next day, so who cares about these champagne guzzlers.

Next day in NW1 I’m happily recording a new song ‘Trust him,’ with Mr Fantastic. He reassures me I wont get a parking ticket outside his house as the rain continues to plague London. Maybe us mortals have upset God and he is really vex. Mr F. says that wardens don’t normally come along his road however a little voice inside tells me that this is Camden the clamping terrorist of the capitol. Silly me, I should have trusted my own instinct because I get a £130 ticket, boo hoo! My gig money is gone. Ahh well, I’ll trust in myself next time.

Unsigned & HappeningLionessQueen of the UK grime jungle, Lioness is admired for her no-nonsense lyrical content and direct delivery. Roaring on to the scene at a young age, Lioness’ skilled word play, and comedic observations set her apart from the rest. Staying true to herself and spitting about what she knows make her relatable and the most popular female MC in the UK Grime scene. Lioness still firmly holds on to that title to date, check out her recently released mixtape, ’Featureness Episode 2’ featuring old and new tracks.@LionessOfficial, www.lionessofficial.com

DukeThink ’80s throwback pop without the cheesiness. This South London singer & songwriter has paved his way through the live circuit, recently playing Michael Jackson in the hit show Thriller Live. Citing the eclectic mix of Chaka Khan, Marvin Gaye and Prince as influences, funkadelic disco tones are evident in the drum patterns and synth heavy production. Matched with a soulful voice that reaches effortless falsettos, Duke is a formidable talent.www.dukeofficial.com

imanWith strong vocals that ride the melody effortlessly, this singer-songwriter from the East side of London has the ability to transcend genres with her sound.Adamantly refusing to write about anything other than her own experiences, Iman’s lyrics are delicately sincere. Her EP ‘Only You’, released last December, contains three tracks and a remix and is only a glimpse of what Iman can do. The title track ‘Only you’, co-penned with rising star Ed Sheeran, is a beautiful love song about the optimism of new beginnings. Definitely worth a listen.@imanmusicuk, www.imanmusic.co.uk , www.facebook.com/imanmusic

Described as a visual masterpiece full of pyrotechnics and lasers, ‘The Throne’ arrives May 18th at The London O2 Arena for 5 back-to-back

performances.

The long time friends and music giants came together under the name ‘The Throne’, to collaborate on the most anticipated Hip-Hop album of 2011. ‘Watch The Throne‘, garnered phenomenal success, topping the album charts and winning the 2012 Grammy Award for ‘Best Rap Performance’ for the debut track ‘Otis’, brilliantly sampling Otis Redding’s ‘Try A Little Tenderness’.

Hip-Hop heads were sent into a ticket buying frenzy earlier this February with the announcement of Kanye West and Jay-Z’s sell-out tour making its way across the pond this month.

Page 9: Issue 41

Inspiring each other to new heights, the superstar duo recorded the album at various locations around the world. The album features production from The RZA, The Neptunes and Kanye’s longtime collaborator Mike Dean. Featured vocals include Beyoncé, Curtis Mayfield, Mr. Hudson and Frank Ocean.

2012 already has the beginnings of a great year for the music icons. With Jay-Z welcoming his baby daughter, the heir to the Throne herself, Blue Ivy Carter in January and Kanye’s recent praise for his single ’Way too Cold’. In true Kanye fashion, the single has attracted much controversy, particularly for the dissing of West’s rumored new girlfriends estranged husband.

With all this success, Jay-Z has hinted at a follow-up project in 2013, ‘We – I say ‘we’ because I’m in Throne mode – we’re in a great place creatively. You might see Jay, then Kanye and a Throne album next year. We’ve really found our zone.’

Whether a sequel is in the pipeline or not, right now we are happy to witness arguably raps greatest duo make history on stage.
