ABOUT THE INSTITUTION

Vellalar College for Women is a pioneer in

women's education, established in 1970, with

an initiative to make remarkable contribution

towards empowerment and upliftment of rural

women. This esteemed institution was formed

for the purpose of imparting Quality Education

for women and it also plays a main role in

imbibing holistic view of life. The college

endeavours to develop a world class hub of wide

range of courses from Under Graduate to

Research programmes since its inception.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Commenced in the year 2007 - 2008, the

Department of Computer Technology and in

2008 - 2009 the Department of Information

Technology, envisions the need for high

eminence skills in software development and

quality training for its students. In order to

keep pace with ever changing trends and

development, the department offers quality

teaching coupled with practical knowledge and

industrial visits. The department is witnessing

a steady growth internally and externally. The

well endowed infrastructure plays a vital role in

grease the wheels of best teaching and learning

atmosphere. With the support of eleven

dedicated faculty members, the department

creates a versatile learning atmosphere for the

students.

RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS OF

FACULTY MEMBERS

The department has been showing a remarkable

progress in the field of research. In order to maintain a

professional viability the faculty members actively share

their views and ideas at the National and International

level, two research articles has been published in

National and International Journals. The department

has produced 10 M.Phil., Scholars.

MEMORANDUM of UNDERSTANDING

The department has signed a MoU with Browzone

Infotech and ETS Academy, Erode to offer PHP

programming for final B.Sc. (IT & CT) students.

CERTIFICATE COURSES

ANIMATION USING PHOTOSHOP

AND FLASH

Certificate courses are the rapid growing segment in the

world of education. Keeping this in mind, the

department offers 6 months Certificate Course

Animation using Photoshop & Flash and 1 year

Certificate Course Information and Communication

Technology using HTML & Dreamweaver. Around 120

students have enrolled to bolster themselves.

FIELD VISIT The students of final year IT and CT were taken for an

Industrial Visit to Ani Frames College of Arts &

Multimedia, Mysore on 18.08.2018. The students gained

the knowledge in the field of “Animation using Flash”.

GLADDEST MOMENT The final IT and CT students were taken for an excursion to Mysore and Chickmangalur for three days from

16.08.2018 to 18.08.2018.

Travel is still the most intense mode of learning. Take memories, leave only footprints

INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR

Sharing the Conception: Dr. Hemalatha Mahalingam, Dr. S. Kannimuthu & Dr. A. Geetha

The Department organized an INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON

CONTEMPORARY TECHNIQUES ISCT' 18 on 21.08.2018. The

Chief Guests are Dr. Hemalatha Mahalingam, Department of

Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, King

Abdulaizz University, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has

provided a speech on “Green Computing. Dr. S. Kannimuthu,

Associate Professor, Department of IT, Karpagam College of

Engineering, Coimbatore delivered a speech on “Machine

Learning”. Dr. A. Geetha, Head and Assistant Professor,

Department of Computer Science, Chikkanna Government Arts

College, Tirupur, carryout a speech on “Big Data Analysis”.

ASSOCIATION INAGURATION

The Department inaugurated the Association “INFOCOM” on 27.07.2018. The function was presided over by Dr. S.

Vijayakumar, Principal, Sri Ragavendra Polytechnic College, Komarapalayam. He motivated the students about the

Value of life and how to tackle the struggles around them.

SPECIAL MEET

The Department organized COUNSELLING MEET for the first

year students on 30.7.2018. Dr. N. Maragatham, Principal & Co-

Ordinator, Dr. N. Anjana Devi, Dr. V. Renuga Devi, Dr. K.

Suganya, Tmt. M. Prema and Tmt. A. Jansy Isabella Rani,

Members, Student Psychological Counseling Center. This session

motivated the students towards the enrichment of their

knowledge and skills. Dr. N. Anjana Devi also gives information

about various scholarships provided by the Government &

Welfare Organization.

INTER COLLEGIATE MEET

The Department organized an INTER COLLEGIATE MEET–

CYBER EXPO 2018 on 28.09.2018. The Chief Guest Mr. J.

Arumugam M.Sc., MBA., PGDHRM, Librarian, PSG College of

Technology, Coimbatore, motivated the students to participate in

the events which held in other colleges to improve their skills.

Nearly students from 15 colleges in and around Erode were

participated in various competitions. The Overall championship

was won by the students from Department of Computer Science,

Kongu Arts and Science College, Erode.

WORKSHOP

The Department conducted one day workshop on “Android

Programming” on 14.12.2018 The Chief Guest Mr. M. Vijayan,

Senior Application Developer, MasterMind Techno Solution,

Tiruchengode acted as the resource person. He demonstrates the

basic concepts of Android Programming.
