Friday 1st March 2019 Issue 21 Spring Term 2 Dear Parents / Carers, Welcome back aſter half term. I hope that you have enjoyed the lighter days and warmer weather, it much nicer start to the day. As Mr Miller explained in his last leer, I am now back from maternity leave and I will connue to share the responsibility with him for the rest of this academic year. This week I have spent me familiarising myself and meeng with staff and children. The school and displays are looking lovely. You may also have noced some developments in the playground thanks to our Edmonton County Primary PTA and there are sll more things to come. So far the children are delighted with the new playground markings and they have enjoyed playing together. Uniform – Please ensure that you send your child to school in the correct uniform. Since the warmer weather I have noced lighter jackets. This is acceptable if it is the correct colour. All jackets and coats should be navy or black with no logos. Please also ensure that their school jumper with logo is with them at all mes. As a reminder that children can wear watches to help them with telling the me but no fashion accessories please. Earrings worn must be plain studs and not on PE days. Large earrings are very dangerous when children are playing outside. Please note that staff will challenge non uniform items, we want our children to look smart and be proud of wearing our school uniform from top to toe. Healthy Lifestyles - I have noced many children walking or coming to school on their scooters or bikes. Now the weather is geng beer we can do more of this. We promote healthy lifestyles at school and we hope you do the same at home. Things you should consider; Eang healthy foods and snacks. Plenty of fruit and vegetables with meals. Be sugar smart. Try being a sugar free zone. Drink plenty of water and not fizzy drinks Walk, scoot or cycle to school with their parents/carers Play, run, skip and jump outdoors and in the park Have plenty of sleep Learn how to brush their teeth and visit the denst Sing songs and read stories together Learn about their own feelings and how to express and manage them Live in a smoke free home If you need any support with this please talk to any member of staff. It feels lovely to be back. The children, parents and staff have given me a warm welcome. I look forward to our future. Have a lovely weekend. Yours sincerely Mrs E Franciosa- Co Head of Primary

The Felix Project collects fresh, nutritious food that is unable to be sold. They deliver this surplus food to charities so they can provide healthy meals and help the most vulnerable in our society. We are proud that Primary are involved in this project. We receive deliveries each week, sort them into bags and are able to offer these to some of our families who need a little support. We have received overwhelming feedback about the extra help it offers to those who may not be able to afford some of the extra produce, and also try some new foods – some families rely on the extra support each week .

We do however run out of carrier bags which are not supplied by the project - if you could help by donating any carrier bags that would be much appreciated.

Also if you would like to be considered as receiving some produce, please could you let the Primary Office know. Thank you.

Year 5 had a fantastic start to the new term! To start the week off, we had workshops led by Metro bank on; saving money, spending, finding out what is meant by interest as well as what a mortgage meant. The workshops were fun as well as educational. Did you know ATM stands for automated teller machine?

On Tuesday, we went to our very first swimming lesson! Although we felt nervous at first it was also exciting. Before going in the pool, the swimming teachers explained pool rules such as; no running, diving and the importance of having the correct swimming kit. Here is a picture of us at Edmonton Green Leisure Centre.

To top off our busy week, we travelled to Metro bank Wood Green on Thursday, where we got to see the magic money machine, meet cashiers and step inside a vault! We hope everyone has enjoyed their first week back at school as much as we have.

Mrs Phiakkou’s Book Recommendation of the Week

My book recommendation this

week is…

The Accidental Prime Minister

by Tom McLaughlin

When Joe tells a local news reporter exactly what he would do if he were leader of the

country, the video goes viral and Joe's speech becomes famous all over the world! Before long, people are calling for the cur-

rent leader to resign and give someone else a go . . . and that's how an ordinary boy like Joe ended up with the most extraordinary

job. Now the fun can really start . . . Hats for cats! Pet pigs for all! Banana

shaped buses! Swimming pools on trains! A hilarious story of one boy's meteoric rise

to power!

The children are invited to dress up as their favourite book character in exchange for a donation

of £1 which will go towards providing enrichment opportunities in English lessons.
