SPRING ISSUE | 2016 NEWSLETTER ICRI | GREAT PLAINS CHAPTER

The Great Plains Chapter’s The Great Plains Chapter’s The Great Plains Chapter’s The Great Plains Chapter’s first Technical Seminar was in St. Louis, at the Hilton

Downtown at the Arch on Thursday, February 18th. Jaime Gaumnitz

welcomed the attendees for the first time as 2016 President of the Great

Plains Chapter. After giving an overview of what is coming up for the year,

Jaime presented an Award of Excellence to Superior Waterproofing and

Goedecke for their work on the St. Louis Old Cathedral Restoration Project.

Tom Schmitt and Mike Rafferty accepted the awards on behalf of Superior and

Goedecke respectively.

The topic of the seminar was Corrosion Control and Mitigation. We had two

speakers. Tim Gillespie, V.P. of Product Management from the Sika

Corporation, travelled from Lyndhurst, New Jersey to give his presentation,

“Total Corrosion Management”. Tim addressed causes of corrosion, materials

and methods of mitigation, and corrosion management strategies. Our

second speaker, Sunil Puri, came to us from Atlanta, Georgia, where he is a

Senior Associate of the Diagnostics Group of Walter P. Moore. Sunil gave his

presentation, “Cathodic Protection—A Proactive Approach to Durable

Concrete Repairs”. His presentation covered the engineering and execution of

a cathodic protection system on a superstructure in Florida, covering all

aspects of the project from diagnostic analysis of the existing corrosion and

mitigation systems all the way through the repair of the structure and

installation of the new cathodic protection system.

The seminar was well attended by members from St. Louis, Kansas City, and

Omaha.
