Al Isharah; who are the UK’s leading charity that caters for deaf Mus-

lims in the UK had held assembly at our school. They work with the

Deaf community on a daily basis to make services and resources acces-

sible for them, to cultivate independent thinking, to create exciting

and rewarding opportunities for them to share experiences with other

young Deaf people and gain access to positive role models. Al Isharah also works in partnership

with Youth Clubs, Youth Groups, Schools, faith based Institutions and the local councils. We also had Mawlana Umar Bhoola (who is visually impaired) visited us on the day and gave our pupils a small talk on the challenges he faces and how he over comes them.

Abou Hurairah ra relates that Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak a good word or remain silent. And whoever believes in Al-lah and the Last Day should show hospitality to his neighbour. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should show hos-pitality to his guest." [Sahih Al-Bukhari and Sahih Al Muslim] The importance of this hadith: This hadith discusses some of the ways a Muslim's faith should affect the way he relates to others. This hadith speaks about three matters, and in doing so it brings together everything

that good manners entail with respect to both word and deed." Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day: This is a conditional sen-tence. It is repeated three times in this hadith, each time with a different condition. The first of these three conditions is to either speak a good word

or remain silent, the second is to show hospitality to one's neighbours, and the third is to show hospitality to one's guests. This hadith is showing us that these three qualities are among the many qualities of faith. A per-son who fails to fulfil any of these conditions is a person whose faith is incomplete and in want of improve-ment. Speaking a good word or remaining silent: This is an encouragement to speak what is good and benefi-

cial; at the same time it is a warning, cautioning us to be careful in what we say, lest we say something that is harmful or false. It is part of a Muslim's faith to speak the truth and to say things that bring about benefit to others. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): "O you who believe! Fear Allah and speak a word that is right. He will set right for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has certainly attained a great achievement." [Surah Al-Ahzab: 70-71]

Year 7 Trip to the Imperial War Museum

Pupils visited the exclusive World War 1 galleries and discover the story of the First World War through the

lives of those who experienced it both on the front line and at home. Pupils also visited the award-winning

Holocaust exhibition, which traces the Nazi persecution and murder of Europe’s Jews from 1933 to 1945. Pu-

pils learned how the political climate enabled Hitler to rise to power and how his ideas spread throughout

the country, ultimately affecting people all around the world.

Year 8A Visit the Science Museum Pupils from Year 8A paid a visit to the exciting and interactive atmosphere gallery and make sense of the climate – the science of how it works, what it’s doing now and what it might do next. Pupils also visited the Space Gallery, which showcases some out-of-this world ob-jects. They had the opportunity to explore how we’ve sent spacecraft to other planets, walked on the Moon and peered into the heart of our galaxy and beyond. Rockets, satel-lites, probes and landers are just some of the many objects that were on display!

Year 8B Visit British Library

Pupils from Year 8B focused on the ‘Sacred Texts’ at the British Library . The purpose of this workshop was

for pupils to find their own connections with the magnificent sacred texts on display in the Treasures gal-

lery. Experienced and creative Educators guided our pupils to look closely and learn from an array of texts.

Pupils were able to view: Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Jewish and Sikh texts. This workshop had

helped our pupils to develop their skills needed for investigating texts, especially how to look closely at

source material.

Year 9 Visit Royal Air Force Museum

Pupils were truly inspired and amazed by the RAF Museum’s stunning new exhibition: First World War

in the Air. They were able to witness the life-sized model of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter jet - the only

place in the world where it is on display. Pupils were able to listen to Winston Churchill’s 'Battle of Brit-

ain' speech to a fearful nation from his 10 Downing Street Office. Also, the Y9 pupils took part in an ex-

clusive workshop, in which they were able to touch and experience real life objects that were used

from the first and Second World War.

Year 10 Trip to the Bank of England

Pupils took an exclusive tour around the newly built Bank of England museum and focused on

an educational presentation named: ‘Keeping on an even Keel’. Pupils were able to appreciate

the role of the Bank of England in a short film that used nautical metaphor and animation to

explain the Bank’s roles and responsibilities in an accessible, imaginative and entertaining

way. The film was divided into seven short modules, which provided a simple guide to the

Bank’s monetary policy and financial stability roles. Explanation on why low inflation and a safe

and stable financial system matter to the UK economy and how the Bank contributes to achiev-

ing them.

The feedback from pupils was excellent and they are already looking forward to going on their next Enrichment

Day programme in a few months' time!
