TANGGUH: Projecct Logist ics Act iv ity“ The Tangguh Expansion Project is a proposed expansion of the existing Tangguh LNG facility located on theSouthern shores of Bintuni Bay in Teluk Bintuni Regency of Papua Barat Province. The gas for the LNG plantis sourced from six natural gas fields, including Vorwata, Wiriagar Deep, Ofaweri, Roabiba, Ubadari, and Wos.The offshore gas production facilities were modified, along with the addition of an LNG train as part of theexpansion. The expansion plan for the LNG plant was approved by the Indonesian Government in 2012. Thefinal investment decision was taken in July 2016 and the new facilities are scheduled to come on stream in 2020The expansion project includes the construction of two offshore platforms as well as No. 13 new productionwells, along with an expanded loading facility and associated infrastructure. The production capacity of the LNGplant will increase by approximately 50%: the expansion project will add a liquefaction unit of 3.8 million tonsper annum (mtpa) of production capacity to the existing facility, bringing total plant capacity to 11.4 mtpa.”

TANGGUH: Project Logist ics Act iv ityFagioli is one of the few companies in the world that can offer at the same time, Heavy Lifting,Transportation and Project Logistics services. This combination enables Fagioli to provide our clients with aunique "Total Supply Chain" concept that keeps coordination and responsibility in the hands of onecompany. The Tangguh project (Indonesia) for which Fagioli has been called to operate, is a clear andundoubted proof of this approach. This project comprises of forwarding and heavy transport activity ofmaterial originated from all over the world. We have already mentioned in the last Newsletters about thishuge project and in these pages you can find some pictures of heavy items shipped, loaded and unloaded inIndonesia for the completion of the plant. The project started in 2017 with a scheduled end time for Fagioliby the end of 2019 with a planned of about 250,000 freight ton of material to be moved, shipped andinstalled. A huge project in which several divisions of Fagioli offices have been deeply involved.

Fagioli was contracted for the transport of No. 4bullets (up to 80 m long) from Italy to Croatia. Fagioli executed the load out operation onto adedicated barge by means of SPMTs with precisemovement in order to position them onto adedicated barge, while proceeding with theballasting operations. No. 2 bullets wereweighing 460 ton each, while the remaining twowere weighing 350 ton each. Once in position they were sea transported toCroatia. Fagioli executed the load in operationand the transport up to a steep climb with arelevant gradient which forced Fagioli to studythe better execution in order to face narrowbends during the journey. The bullets weresuccessfully stored onto dedicated stools. Afterthis challenging transport and storage steps, thebullets were moved inside client premises for thefinal installation which was executed by meansof gantry lifting system.

The module to be handled had the followingdimension: 80 m in length; 9.7 wide and 11mhigh. Fagioli firstly used No. 18 x 300 tonhydraulic jacks and No. 18 load cells (No.14 x 200ton capacity each ; 4 x 300 ton capacity each) toexecute the weighing operation. Fagioli, then, prepared N° 2 Strand jacks, type L450, withminimum safe working load of 418 t. Each Strand

Jack was armed with 27 Strand(dia 18mm) with a Safe

working load each of 15t for a total amount of810 t. The strand jacks managed to pull themodule onto dedicated skid tracks and eventuallyonto the barge. Once loaded, the barge moved toan artificial island where the module was skiddedby Fagioli strand jacks onto the land. Ballast andengineering operation for the load in action wereexecuted under Fagioli engineering divisionresponsibility. Please see pictures at the top ofthe operations executed in Kazakhstan.

Fagioli is currently involved in the installation of receivers positioned on top of concrete towers able tocollect the sunlight reflected and concentrated by a large field of sun-tracking mirrors positioned at groundlevel. Fagioli is working on a solar power plant in Chile and a concentrated solar plant under constructionin the Middle East for final installation up to a height of 200 m of a RECEIVER (connected to a RING BEAM). At the beginning of the operations the RECEIVER is stored at ground level onto a supporting frame whichis called RING BEAM. The frame, which is used for the RECEIVER construction, is also employed for theskidding operation. Main procedures for the jack-up, skidding and lifting actions are the followings.

When it comes to talk about the heavy transportactivity executed in Italy there is always a questionmark about ..” Am I able to do it?”. It’s not a matterof lack of capacity, engineering, equipment,know-how ...but the unique geographic configurationof the “Bel Paese”, with its mountains dividing thecountry from East to West, does not allow , in somecases the heavy transport onto standard roads. Wecan also add that between the end of 2016 and thebeginning of 2017 in Italy, two serious accidentsoccurred on National highways and roads with the

collapse of two bridges which forced the ItalianNational authorities to take hasty measures andexacerbating the release of heavy transport permitsfor the passage onto bridges and flyovers.

This is the sad preamble of the heavy road transportin which Fagioli was involved for the transport of apower transformer from Naples to Calabria region , a410 km route if executed by road but which tookabout two months to be actually completed. Thislong story started when Fagioli was called for thepreliminary studies for the execution of the transport.

ITALY

Fagioli realized that the main problem was not justthe coordination and organization activity betweenthe different divisions (sea / heavy road transport /engineering) but the request and consequentobtaining of road permits for the passage of theconvoy onto two problematic bridges after the issuingof a complete technical survey on each of them. Thefirst leg of the transport was executed close to Naplesat client manufacturing area, where the transformerwas loaded onto Fagioli modular trailers andtransported to the port of Naples. The item wasloaded onto a self-geared dedicated H/L ship and ittook two days of navigation to get to Crotone port

where the transformer was directly unloaded ontoFagioli SPMT trailers. The trailers was road transpor-ted into a dedicated area. In the meantime after thesurveys and engineering studies executed by Fagioli,it was necessary to perform some severe roadinterventions or reinforcement onto two bridges, with feeble infrastructural capacity, which were onthe only available route for reaching the power plant.Fagioli used 18 axle lines SPMTs and over bridges tobypass the two bridges. Once arrived at site, thetransformer was unsecured and unloaded by meansof gantry lifting system ( No. 4 x 600 ton capacityeach) onto its final foundations.

Fagioli prepared 15 + 15 axle lines trailers pro-vided with Schnabel structure in order to support the load. The convoy, completed by two trucks, one at thebottom and one at the front, reached the length of about 75 m. The transport up to Ostiglia river port wasexecuted in three nights. TRANSPORT AND POSITIONING OF SUPERCONDUCTORSFagioli was called for the heavy transport of superconductors weighing upto 200 ton to La Spezia port. After the sea transport, the heavy items wereunloaded in Marghera port, Venice, and moved to their final destination byNo. 24 axle lines Fagioli SPMTs. Fagioli utilized wooden mate to spread theload to comply with the ground bearing capacity limitations. Once arrivedat destination, Fagioli executed the positioning of the items ontofoundations by means of Gantry lifting system. Pictures at the top.

TRANSPORT OF A 184 TON TRANSFORMER TO SARDINIAFagioli used a 16 axle lines modular trailers (5+56), to transport a 5 m hightransformer from Northern Italy to Sardinia island. First the transformerwas moved to Cremona river port where it was loaded onto Fagioli riverbarge with destination Marghera port in Venice. The item was loaded ontoa H/L ship with destination Sardinia island and then transshipped ontoFagioli trailers for the last leg of the transport. At client premises, thetransformer was stored and skidded with rollers onto its final position.Overbridges (23.4 long) were also positioned along the route. whole structure. No. 2 supportbeams were transversallypositioned underneath theWestern and Eastern bridgepylons in order to anchor all thelifting/lowering structure to thew/e bridge sections. On the Eastern bridge pylonanother structure was positionedat the top end of the bridge withNo. 2 additional strand jacks withcounterweights with the task ofproviding a counterbalancingaction during the lowering. After the removal of some of thesections and the necessary

environment reclamation, it wasdecided to explode some of thepylons (not in Fagioli scope ofwork). At the time being, all the sectionsand pylons of the Morandi bridge, have been successfully removed.Fagioli has been contracted forthe transport of the sectionswhich will compose the newbridge onto Polcevera river. Seatransport by barges and heavyroad transport of 237 itemsweighing between 56 and 89 ton, each. It took about sixty nights tocomplete the consignment.

hronicle of Moranndi Bridge DemolitionCAs described in the previous pagesthe first operation was the removalof the berger beam no. 8,comprised between V shape pilesNo. 7 and No. 8. The 916 ton bridgedeck was lowered by strand jackingsystem at a speed of 5 m/per hour.Following the same procedure(positioning of the counterweightsand strand jacks; removal of decksconstraints such as fixed andmobile joints; lifting action of thebeam by a few centimeters; cuttingoperation with diamond wires),berger beam no. 7 (weighing 850ton), beam no. 6 (916 ton) andbeam no. 5 of (916 ton) werelowered by strand jacking system

in two months. In the meantime onMarch the 18, No.5 cranes arrivedin Genoa, to be used for thedismantling operations of theWestern piles. The two maincranes have a capacity of 600 ton .The cranes were road transportedto construction site by means of 72trucks and assembled in 10 days. The deck beam number 3, wassectioned into smaller beams andlifted by the 600 ton capacitycrane. The presence of asbestos insome of the sections (the bridgewas built in 1963), slowed theoperations of demolition. By theend of March, deck beam number4 was lowered and touched

ground. In order to be able todisassemble this section weighing920 ton in complete safety and incompliance with the regulations inthe presence of asbestos, thecutting operation was subjected tocontinuous irrigation of waterwhich was then collected andanalysed. During all thedemolitions, the danger thresholdsof asbestos had never beenexceeded, both in the air and in thewater. V Shape pile no. 5 was the firstpile to be demolished on the Westside of the bridge. The operationsstarted with the removal of thelateral parts, the sidewalks.

Subsequently it was necessary tomake some holes for the passageof the slings. The deck wassectioned in three parts in thelongitudinal direction: the firstsection weighing 300 ton waslowered on the 16th of April; thesecond (310 ton) on the 19th ofApril and, eventually the third oneon the 26th of April by cranes. Thewith a rotation action. After thethree portions of deck beam, thepillars were also sectioned to twothirds of their height by obliquecuts to allow them a rotationtowards the outside and make thelowering by crane easier. In thesame way the pile no. 4 (end of

May), the pile no. 7 (first half ofJune), the pile no. 6 (first week ofJuly), the pile no. 3 (end of July)and the pile no. 8 ( early days ofAugust), were dismantled. Afterthe demolitions of these piles, theberger beam no. 10 and 11(weighing 750 ton each) was cutand lowered with the strandjacking system be the end of May.The demolition of V shape pilesno. 10 and no. 11 pile wasexecuted with an operation ofcontrolled explosion by the end ofJune. It was necessary to execute adetailed plan for dust mitigation, and functional tests for the correctpositioning of the explosives in

order to obtain the expectedkinematic motion. If blasting withexplosives was initially foreseen forthe pile no. 8, it was decided todisassemble just like the otherpiles. Being 4 meters longer than allthe others, it required someadditional cuts. Unlike the otherpiles, the legs of pile no. 8 were cutwith diamond wire and loaded andlowered with Fagioli crawler cranesup to avoid inducing vibrations tothe foundations of the new pile no.9, built adjacent to the old pile no.8. Pile no. 2, the last one left, wasdemolished at the same time as thepile 8. The demolition of the bridgeended on the 12th of August 2019.

Transport of sections for the new BridgCIVIL

When, on that cursed 14th of August 2018, a 210 meters section of the Morandi bridgecollapsed, Genoa was put in knee by one of the saddest tragedy ever occurred to thisancient and glorious city. Since 1963 the bridge was not only part of the modern thelandscape and architectural representation of the city, but, due to its location, was one ofthe major links from Italy to France. After this tragic event, the city of Genoa supported bythe Italian government decided to give a boost in accelerating the procedures ofdemolition of the bridge (including the environment reclamation of the affected area) andto find the most sustainable solution for the construction of a new bridge. Renzo Piano, theworldwide well‐known architect, pledged to create a new bridge for the city in which hewas born in order to bring a “positive moment of unity and cooperation”. Renzo Piano’sproject will include 19 reinforced concrete piles, a wind barrier and 43 lighthouse towersto commemorate the victims of the tragedy. In honor to Genoa which has historically been

INSTALLATION OF THE FIRST SECTION OF THE NEW BRIDGE IN GENOAOn Tuesday the 1st of October, it started a new phase for the new Renzo Piano bridge in Genoa. After thedemolition phase of the Morandi bridge, where Fagioli was involved with strand jacking system, SPMTs andcrawler cranes for the dismantling and lowering of the old bridge sections, the company is now involved inthe transport and lifting activity for the new bridge. one of the most important ports on the Mediterranean, RenzoPiano new bridge will have a shape reminiscent of the keeland the bow of a boat. The new Genoa viaduct will be builton the same route as the Morandi bridge and will be about1,100 meters long. The sections with an elliptical shape (3 x9.5 m) will be positioned 50 meters from each other. Adistance that rises instead to 100 meters for the spans on thePolcevera stream and on the railway lines. Three lanes are thenprovided for each direction, including two emergency lanes. Thedeck will be made of a mixed steel‐concrete structure, a windproofprotective barrier and a photovoltaic energy supply system. Here below some rendering of the new bridge (Copyright).

which are going to be used to build the viaduct. Fagioli will be involved for a total of 60 nights for thetransport of the sections. In the meantime, on the 1st of October, Fagioli lifted a 500 ton steel structure (50m long) by means of two crawler cranes, as the first step of the new bridge in Genoa. The viaduct, shapedlike a sail , as imagined by the famous architect Renzo Piano, is going to reflect Genoa's seafaring heritage, and it’s expected to be ready by next year. The lifting and installation operation of this first section was heldin the presence of the Italian Prime Minister , Mr. Giuseppe Conte

agioli was contracted for final installation of aSyncrolift platform in Genova. The 900 ton structurewas transported from manufacturing area inBrindisi onto a dedicated barge by means of 4 x 10axle lines SPMTs and sea transported up to Genovaport. Platform dimensions were the followings:length 84 m; width 22 m ; height 2 m. The mostchallenging part of the job was the load in operationof the platform. SPMTs configuration was changedtwice in order to allow the structure to be loadedonto the quay. First the platform was moved ahead

with the trailers positioned on the bow of the bargekeeping the weight on the SPMTs positioned on thestern. The SPMTs were re‐configured in order tomove the platform in parallel to the barge axis. Theplatform was unloaded from barge and laid ontodedicated stools. No. 4 EZ‐600 + No. 4 EnerpacSBL1100 gantry lifting systems were used to connectthe platform and execute the lowering operationand complete the installation. Fagioli engineeringdepartment was also involved for the operations ofballasting, lashing, securing and mooring.

Fagioli was contracted for a delicate job for the installation of Crankshaft sections onto a Helicopter carrierShip under construction in Southern Italy. This kind of job, even though it does not involve heavy items interms of weight and dimension, needed a real challenging engineering process in order to be put in place.Main challenge was the installation of the several sections under a ship positioned onto a launching slipway, which was inclined. The crank shaft sections (three on one side and three on the opposite side), needed tobe inserted into supports with a tolerance of max. 1 centimeter, whilst the connecting operation of thesections was due to be executed with a tolerance of tenth of a millimeter, in order to assembly the joining

nuts. This surgical operation was executed by means of climbing jacks positioned on top of SPMTs, whichwere simultaneously lifted or lowered during the uphill transport operation in order to counterbalancethe sections. No. 4 couple of climbing jacks (500 ton capacity each) were positioned, fixed and secured ontop of No. 8 axle lines SPMTs. The crankshaft sections were transported by SPMTs and inserted under theship in eight main steps, being very careful to execute a safely operation, considering the slope terrain.Climbing jacks as well as SPMTS were remotely controlled. A deep engineering study was internally issuedbefore the actual operation was executed. The Crankshaft sections weight was between 27 and 58 ton.

LENGTHENING OF A CRUISE SHIP In Palermo, Fagioli executed the "jumboization" of a 135 m long Cruise Ship. The ship was cut intotwo sections by the client and Fagioli used No. 19 “skid shoes” (1,000 ton capacity each), previouslypositioned under the ship, to move the bow ahead . The weight of the bow was about 3630 t.Fagioli employed no. 36 axle lines SPMTs to insert the new section in between the bow and thestern. The new section was weighing about 1,000 ton. Once in position, the bow was brought backin order to complete the final assembly of the ship, which will be executed by the client.
