Curriculum Day Care Program Curriculum Day Care Enrolment form CULTURAL DIVERSITY AT OSHC This week our focus has been on France, which the children have taken a particular interest in. We have learnt some basic phrases, including “Bonjour” and “Merci”, and by the end of the week most children were even introducing themselves in French with “Je m’appelle . . .” We also learnt some interesting facts — France is the most visited country in the world, with over 80 million tourists visiting a year. French is the second most studied language in the world, aſter English. We also looked at the location of France, and its size and population in comparison to Australia. We learnt that even though you can fit France into Australia 14 times, France has a population that is 3 times larger than Australia (66 million compared to 23 million)! We will continue to expand our knowledge of other cultures and languages from all over the world in the coming weeks. As you know, this week was also Education Week and its theme was very fittingly, diversity! To celebrate the diversity of our OSHC program we created an OSHC diversity tree, with the handprints of all the children forming the leaves. We used this as an opportunity to discuss celebrating our differences and the importance of inclusiveness. We hope to have the diversity tree on display in the coming days. BREAKFAST REMINDER A reminder that breakfast is only served until 8am sharp so please remind your children to have breakfast when they arrive, particularly if they are being dropped off between 7.45-8am. More and more children are coming to the breakfast counter aſter 8am as they have been busy playing and forgotten. We also encourage children to be independent by making/ordering their own breakfast. Of course we are more than happy to help out any child who needs a bit of encouragement or assistance. If you believe your child may require a helping hand, please let one of the carers know and we will be more than happy to assist. GLASS JARS NEEDED We are still in need of the glass jars for next week’s craſt program. If you can assist, please drop them into OSHC. JULY HOLIDAY PROGRAM Planning of our term 2 holiday program is well underway. The program will be available with next week’s eBulletin. Please note the following important dates: Enrolments made aſter the 17 June deadline will only be accepted where staffing permits. A $10 late booking fee will apply. FEES & INVOICES Invoices for care in week ending 15/5/16 were emailed out this week with payment due by Friday, May 27. Any queries please contact Britt at the school office or email [email protected]. STAR SPELLERS Congratulations to the following students from OSHC who made it through to the spelling bee final today: Congratulations to all of those children, a wonderful achievement.. SPORT IN OSHC We introduced our first fitness session in BSC this week. This was a huge success and we look forward to further developing this in the coming weeks. The session was circuit based and involved moving around to a number of different stations, allowing the children to try a range of different skills. The main focus of these sessions is to “increase fitness and confidence, in a very non-competitive environment. We are also looking at introducing some sessions focused solely on boxing (non-contact) for the older children. If you or your child have any skills/sports you would particularly like included on the program please email OSHC as we would love some suggestions. Also on the program and proving popular this week was table tennis; this is on the program again next week. Our morning yoga sessions are continuing with the children’s knowledge and skills growing. CHILD LEAD ACTIVITIES We always encourage the children to contribute to the program and this week Alyssa N ran a new game called ‘Golden Card Challenge’ with 5 other children. Alyssa explained the rules and then the group played against each other with great enthusiasm. Lucas B and Ellie W played off aſter winning the most games. Lucas won and then challenged Alyssa but Alyssa was too skilled for him at her own game!
