Principal's Message
Return to school begins next week Today we have emailed out some detailed information as to how we as a school and a community will be handling and adjusting to, returning to school and the associated restrictions. Bayswater South Primary School is committed to providing a safe learning and working environment for our students and staff. We ask for the whole school community to read all the information emailed out today carefully and follow this guide to enable us to provide the safest possible environment during this time. We all have a role to play in stopping the spread of COVID-19 in Victoria. Curriculum day Monday 25
th - Staff will be planning for the weeks ahead and the staged return
of all students back to school. They will also be setting up classrooms and necessary equipment for the junior students’ arrival back on Tuesday. On behalf of the staff I would like to say thank you to the parents for the commitment to and communication with the Home Learning undertaken in the BSPS community. The effort and enthusiasm that has been put into some of the work I have seen is amazing. From rap music recordings to detailed artworks, to waving to students doing virtual cross country runs to the inquiry into literacy and numeracy topics – well done to students and parents alike! I look forward to seeing all the wonderful junior students’ faces upon their return next week. I ask for parents’ understanding of and commitment to the new restrictions for adults on school grounds. Have a great long weekend (Curriculum day Monday) and stay safe. Perhaps the most important action school communities can take to reduce the risk of transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19), is to ensure that any unwell staff, children and young people remain at home. Bayswater South Primary School is following the advice from the Department of Education and Training including, Health and safety advice for return to onsite learning in the context of COVID-19 which can be found on the Department’s Coronavirus (COVID-19) website.

Nana’s Necklace
Nana’s necklace is very special to her. It is her mum’s
necklace. Her
mum got it for her 21st birthday.
It is silver with red leaves. The silver twists to make vines. It is
like
a silver and red forest. It is very pretty.
We wonder if Nana’s mum ever wore the necklace.
We wonder who gave the necklace
to her.
The connection is that Nana got it
from her mum.

Grannie`s Bracelet Story. From my Grannie Childhood
I spoke to my Grannie about her special bracelet which is about 60
years old.
It has the 10 Commandments written on the hearts and the bracelet is
silver.
See: Grannie sees that it is old and she also sees the 10
Commandments written on it. And I see that it has love hearts and that
it is silver and it has a lovely chain.
Wonder: I wondered how old she was when she got the bracelet. And
she responded that she was 10-years-old when she got the bracelet. I
also wondered who give her the bracelet. And she said that her mother
and fathers friend give the bracelet to her as a present as a
confirmation gift. She said that she wears it even now when she goes
to dancing. And she remembered that she wore a white dress with the
bracelet to her confirmation. I wondered if she knew who she did her
confirmation with. She said she couldn`t remember but she was the
only Catholic person in her neighbourhood. She went to Sunday school
for two years. She also said that her grandparents to her confirmation
with her.
Connect: My connect is that I go to
Sunday school too. She remembers that
she got it for her confirmation and it
reminded her of her parents and her
childhood.

My family relics My mom and dad are coming from Republic of Belarus, which
in the past was a part of USSR. So, all my grandparents live in
Belarus and I have to talk to them via Skype.
When I asked my
mother’s parents about important old things in their life they
told me about old scarf and a piece of paper.
The scarf was brought by my grand-grand-father from Berlin,
and the piece of paper was a notice my grand-
grand-grandmother
received after World War 2 stating that my grand-
grand-grand-father was missing after a battle in
November
1943. My grandparents keep a lot of memories
linked to WW2,
because every third citizen of Belarus died in that
war and no
one was left not-influenced by that horrible war.
Even during
pandemic Belarus is the only country which holds
a parade on
9th of May devoted to the Victory Day in 1945.
I am very curious about history of my family and
will keep on finding further details.

My Grandma’s special gift Dedicated to my great-grandfather, dead, but not forgotten.
Today, I talked to my Grandma who was born in Colombia. Her name is
Martha. She has a special gift that means a lot to her and I’m going to
share it with you.
This is my grandma’s camera that her dad gave to her.
SEE
I notice that it’s an antique camera from olden times. [It’s made in
Germany!] The brand is AGFA. It comes in a leather-case and is in a
good condition.
WONDER
We wonder how many photos/memories, there could be in the camera.
I wonder where my great-grandad went with the camera. Possibly on
the beach, a sunset, or even a birthday!
CONNECT
My grandma’s father gave this camera to her, it was a special gift for
my grandma. He asked her to take care of the camera and pass it onto
the family. He bought this
camera in 1958 so it’s 62
years old! All family photos
were taken in that camera,
even my great- grandad
took photos of my mum.

HI, FROM YOUR STUDENT LEADERS!
(OUR YEAR 5/6 SRC, HOUSE CAPTAINS AND STUDENT LEADERS)
Hello everyone,
We hope you are well and looking forward to returning to school soon. The Preps to Year 2
students will come back on Tuesday and we hope everyone will come to school with a big
smile. Thank you to all parents for the time and effort you put in to help your children learn
from home. Years 3 to 6 will continue to learn from home for a little longer. We know that
everyone is looking forward to seeing their friends again and having playtime together, as well
as learning together with the teachers. We will all have to wash our hands well and often to
keep everyone safe.
Year 3 to 6 students, keep doing your best learning at home. Listen to your parents and be
kind.
Preps to Year 2, we wish you a great start back at school and we will see you in 2 weeks time.
All the best from your vice captains,
Mahdi and Nick
