THE YEAR 6 YAP PROJECT

The YAP project, which runs in year 6 for most of the autumn term, made a £366 profit at

the Christmas Fair. The proceeds were split between three charities - £100 to SOSSEN

(for children with special educational needs), £100 to the Psoriasis Association and £166

to the Friends of the Raleigh.

The charities were chosen by year 6 children who, in our English lessons, had all written a

speech about a cause close to their hearts. After listening to a shortlist of speeches,

delivered by the children who wrote them, the children voted for their favourite. Well

done to Robin and Erin for their winning speeches – extremely emotive and persuasive.

Below is an email from Eleanor Wright of SOSSEN thanking us, particulary Robin, for our

donation.

Dear Mrs O’Neill Thank you, the Year 6 staff and children at The Raleigh School so much for the lovely donation you sent which we received today. It was such a lovely surprise and is so generous, particularly given the hard work put in by the children into raising the money sent. We will certainly put the money to good use in continuing to help children with special educational needs and disabilities. Thanks in particular to whichever Year 6 child it was who suggested us and made a persuasive speech in our favour, it sounds really impressive. Your donation has really put our staff and volunteers into a good mood for Christmas! I hope you and all the staff and children have a lovely Christmas break. Many thanks again, and Merry Christmas! We have also received a certificate and letter of thanks

from the Psoriasis Association, which Erin supported.

We would wish to convey our sincere thanks to all of the students who took part in the project and in particular the child who delivered such a persuasive speech in support of this charity. It is very encouraging for us to learn of opportunities taken by young people to raise awareness of psoriasis.
