W ith the Sukkot holiday being celebrated two weeks earlier than last year, well-known Israeli hotels which annually play host to

thousands of American couples and families are offering holiday packages to both returning clients and potential customers.

Several major hotels have upgraded their holiday programs by offering unique experiences to their cli-ents such as mystical holiday encounters in the Gal-ilee, making Kiddush in a beautiful sukka overlook-ing the Old City, and enjoying a holiday meal while watching Tel Aviv beachcombers catch a wave in the inviting Mediterranean surf.

“Though we have many families who automati-cally book and renew their reservations for Sukkot every year, no one can take their clientele for granted due to the growing competition in the marketplace. Quality hotels not only have to compete against each other but also against the many attractive Sukkot programs for families in the USA and Europe,” one Israeli hotel executive says.

Traditionally, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv area hotels annually attract a substantial number of guests from the USA. “When you come to Jerusalem for the holiday, you are not just celebrat-ing anywhere,” says Medina Pearl, the David Citadel Hotel’s director of pub-lic relations. “As we are able to actually offer couples and families a suite fea-turing their own private sukka porch, which showcases a spectacular view of the Old City, or offer our other guests a meal in the hotel’s rooftop sukka, whose views are no less breathtaking, you’re able to provide clients with a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experi-ence.”

Pearl added that guests are also searching for hotels who offer pal-ate-pleasing gastronomic extravagan-

zas during the holiday. “Food is an issue. If you check the popular travel websites such as Trip Advisor and read what guests have to say about hotels, location is not just the only thing that people are looking for,” she says. “They want to be entertained by the chef. They want to see a nice presen-tation on their plates and have their palates experience something fabu-lously delicious. In our hotel, we will have close to 1,000 guests eating in the sukka at least twice a day for eight days, so the chef must be creative. We recently hired Chef Itzik Barak, who has worked at several luxury hotels in Israel, and has brought a new sophisti-

cation to our menus.” For couples and families seeking a

Mediterranean-accented holiday amid

the hustle and bustle of Tel Aviv, the Sheraton Tel Aviv Hotel offers guests a seaside Sukkot agenda. “We recently remodeled our outdoor pool, which also features a poolside restaurant that’s open all day and during the eve-ning. Guests can enjoy their breakfast meal in the Olive Leaf terrace sukka, which overlooks the beachfront prom-enade, then head out to our pool or the beach and revel in the beautiful weather and Tel Aviv lifestyle. There’s always an exciting buzz in and around the beach, where tourists mix with the locals,” says Jane Yacoubzadi, the Sheraton Tel Aviv’s manager of public relations.
