iSPORT 1958 – 2019: Play Your Role
Week 2 of the summer sport season will again see Primary AFL,
swimming, volleyball, cricket and sailing in competitive
situations. It will be highlighted by the St Peters clash in
volleyball. Some teams have a varied draw this weekend and
some have byes, so all families of players are requested to check
schedules.
The Padua round tested our ability and organisation, while the
Primary AFL teams faced strong St Laurence’s teams and our
swimmers competed against Ashgrove. Highlights included wins
by 1st AFL and volleyball, our 1st XI hitting 201 but succumbing to
Padua’s batting effort and our fleet sailors providing strong
performances that set up their season. There also appeared to
be much enjoyment through involvement.
Interhouse swim meets were also held last week and continue
this week with participation and house spirit generating
enjoyment.
Our high performance area sees numerous district and regional
trials underway. In this area, the selection of Connor O’Neill in
the Queensland U18 Beach Volleyball Team and the Australian
Junior Volleyball Squad is outstanding. Beau Brown also gained
selection in the Australian U15 Volleyball Team to play Japan and
is in the Australian Youth team to tour Thailand. Another
outstanding effort.
Amidst all the competition, it is this
image of two young AFL players from
the AIC AFL competition that best
points to what underlies our current
AIC competition. Can we better it?

for students born in 2009, 2008, 2007. The College sends
students for a variety of sports trials. We are usually very limited
with how many students we can send to each trial. Students
have already been asked to nominate for Term 1 Sports. Any
student who has not registered his interest in any Lytton sport
for Term 1 should contact Mr Pritchard on
[email protected]. Students who are selected to
attend the trial will receive paperwork with specific information
including date, time, venue etc. Please note Lytton is

Mountain Biking
Forty-four families attended a mountain biking meeting this
week so as to provide ideas as to how the sport will move
forward. The progression will involve:
- Long term planning: establishing the sport within the current Iona sporting landscape, developing training and competition routines and the building of a track.
- Short term planning: focusing on parent involvement,
conducting an Iona based introductory course most
likely in Term 2, designing competition attire and
establishing a competitive team under the Iona banner.
Formulating a workable communication pathway is also
