Burn is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in
Bangladesh and in many parts of the world.
More than 233000 people are burned every year in
Bangladesh; among them 18000 need hospitalization and 3600
become permanently disabled.
Average out-of-pocket expenses for the care of a burn were
about $22 per family. For a severe burn, a family spent $462.
The magnitude and consequences of this problem make burn
injury an urgent public health problem.

The present study has been designed with the following aims
and objectives:
To study which organisms were prevalent along with the
evaluation of the antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of the
organisms to the commonly used antibiotics at Burn unit of
City Hospital (Pvt.) Limited ,Dhaka.
To check the changing pattern of the organisms and their
susceptibility pattern and assist the clinicians to formulate an
effective antibiotic policy based on this study.

This study should be done frequently to check the changing
pattern & based on this, the hospital should formulate an
effective antibiotic policy.
Prevention of further contamination of wounds by sterilized
dressings and strict environmental control and restriction of
movements of people within burn ward .
Proper selection and use of antibiotic for treatment of patients
is also necessary to reduce the incidence of multidrug
resistant strains.
