ISO 9060:2018 New ClassificationPractical guidelines
www.eko-eu.com
The nomenclature of classification has changed. Secondary Standard, First Class, and Second Class are replaced by Class A, B and C respectively.
By the alphabetic code, the ranking and accuracy of each sensor class was made more simple and broad to adopt any kind of sensor technologies.
All EKO solar radiation sensors will correspond to the ISO 9060:2018.

What has changed?Fast response class
According to this new classification, the MS-80 can be called "Fast response pyranometer of class A" and the MS-57 "Fast response pyrheliometer of class A."
The additional properties named "fast response" is newly defined and can be added to the classification. By introducing this new sub-class, we can clearly distinguish pyranometers with the fast response from the other categories. The specific requirement for this class is the 95% response time shall be less than 0.5 seconds. When a pyranometer fulfills all requirements for class A and it has the response time less than 0.5 seconds, it is classified as "Fast response pyranometer of class A." The same definition can be added to class B or C and the pyrheliometer range.
Spectrally flat class
EKO's secondary standard pyranometers MS-80 and MS-802 fulfill the requirement of the "Spectrally flat pyranometer class A”. MS-60 and MS-40 in class B and C respectively. MS-57 meets the requirements of a "Spectrally flat” pyrheliometer of class A.
The requirement of the spectrally flat class is not new but the same as the spectral selectivity within the first edition of ISO 9060. When a pyranometer fulfills all requirements for class A and it has the spectral selectivity less than 3 % in the wavelength range from 0.35 to 1.5 microns, it is categorized as "Spectrally flat pyranometer of class A." The same applies for class B or C and the pyrheliometer range. Silicon pyranometers won’t meet the criteria of “Spectrally flat”, but for the first time can be defined under ISO 9060:2018.
What has changed?
Fast response & Spectrally flat class
We are proud to have two unique products in the range. MS-80 "Fast response and spectrally flat” pyranometer of class A. MS-57 " Fast response and spectrally flat pyrheliometer class A."
The additional properties “fast response” and “spectrally flat” can be combined to put a distinct emphasis to the pyranometer and pyrheliometer specification criteria.
What has changed?
Identification of classification
Since many years EKO performs a temperature response and directional response test for secondary standard pyranometers and temperature response test for the first class pyrheliometers. To prove compliance of the tests and specifications we provide a comprehensive measurement report .
For pyranometers in the highest class, individual tests of temperature response and directional response are “mandatory” under the ISO 9060:2018. Other properties can be claimed without individual tests. For pyrheliometers within the second highest class (Class A) a temperature response measurement is required.

EKO PYRHELIOMETERSOverview
Major changes were made to the new ISO 9060:2018 categories. A new definition of classes and criteria apply to make the standard more consistent and compliant with the available sensors in the market. We can see many of the revision points were implemented by EKO ahead of the new revision.
