Leading in a Dynamic EraThis module facilitates your entry to your online
masters programme. The module is designed
to equip you with a range of learning and
skills for leading and learning in contemporary
organisational context. The module employs
an experiential learning pedagogy focused
on the integration of practice and theory. You
will be encouraged to draw upon elements of
personal and professional development as youbuild a comprehensive plan for growth.

Module 2: Managing the IS Function
This module builds your awareness of the
enabling role of IS function in organisational
transformation. It equips you with relevant skills
and knowledge to manage IS functions in a
business environment. You will develop the ex-
pertise needed to challenge existing approach-
es, and to extend knowledge and practice in
this business-critical function.
Upon successful completion of thismodule you will be able to:
Critically evaluate diverse processes
that organisations use to budget, build
and evolve information systems
Manage and evaluate the implementation of
professional, legal and ethical aspects of IS
Appraise and manage IS risk and security
issues within a given organisational context

Module 3: Organisations and
the Business EnvironmentThis module will provide you with the tools
and techniques to anticipate and evaluate how
the external environment affects the internal
structure, processes and behaviour of an or-
ganisation. In addition, you will be equipped to
develop appropriate managerial responses.
Upon successful completion of this
module you will be able to:
Critically evaluate different approaches
to organisation, management
and decision-making
Understand functional areas, roles and
responsibilities within an organisation
Appraise the external environmentwithin which an organisation
resides and its implications
Evaluate and interpret alternative
measures of organisational performance
Critically evaluate a range of operational
practices and techniques to optimise
organisational performance

effectively manage relationships with
internal and external stakeholders
(including supply chain)
Module 4: Managing Projects
Project management is an important organ-
isational activity concerned with the planning
and management of resources to deliver the re-
quired project outcome within defined quality,
time and cost constraints. This module seeks
to equip you with essential knowledge and key
skills to conceptualise, plan and manage proj-
ects successfully.
Upon successful completion of thismodule you will be able to:
Systematically review and evaluate the
concepts of project management and
have a critical awareness of the key factors
involved in successful project management
Analyse and apply appropriate techniques
to each stage of a projects lifecycle

this module equips you with competencies

contexts. You will research, evaluate and apply
appropriate innovative solutions to achieve
strategic objectives and competitive advan-

Module 6: Strategic
Information SystemsInformation Systems are a key enabler of busi-
ness strategies and ultimately competitive
capabilities in most organisations. As a result,
IS and business managers will have varying
degrees of involvement within the strategic
context of IS. This module equips you with a
strategic perspective on IS, how IS and business
strategies are aligned, and how this alignment
is achieved and maintained. The emphasis willbe on the organisational rather than the techni-
cal aspects of IS.
Upon successful completion of this
module you will be able to:
Critically evaluate the strategic importance
of IS within an organisation
Demonstrate the knowledge and skills
needed to produce a strategic plan that
includes effective management of change
Assess the alignment of IS with

Module 7: Research Methods
This module seeks to prepare you as an inquir-
ing professional to critically evaluate a range of
research approaches to address management
problems. You will be able to conceptualise a
relevant issue, then select and formulate an ap-
propriate research strategy to investigate that
issue.
Upon successful completion of this
module you will be able to:
Discern the rationale and appraise
the choice of approaches that can be
taken in management research
Critically evaluate the methods and
results of published research in a relevant
field of management literature
Select and evaluate appropriate research
methods for a management research project
Conceptualise a work-based issue and
formulate an appropriate research question
Design an appropriate research
strategy to address a relevant
management research question
Module 8: Management
Research ProjectThe Management Research Project provides
you with the opportunity to integrate all your
prior learning from the programme. You will
be able to apply the analytical and conceptual
tools and personal skills gained from the previ-
ous modules to an in-depth investigation of a
specific management problem. The result will
be the presentation of a management report of
between 10,000-12,000 words.
Upon successful completion of this
module you will be able to:
Design and plan an appropriate
research strategy to address a relevant
management research question
Undertake systematic search and review ofrelevant published theoretical and research
based literature relating to research project
Collect, analyse and synthesise relevant data
Present research results in a critical fashion
Present and justify conclusions, implications
and, where appropriate, recommendations
