Islamic Math Line Designs
Islamic geometric designs are beautiful to view and exciting and challenging to color and create. In theseactivities, students will build and reinforce decimal skills while coloring an Islamic geometric design. First students solve math problems and then they follow a key to color the designs. For an extra challenge, students will follow step-by-step directions and create the Islamic design on an isometric grid.
Learning Objectives:
1. Students nd the sum of decimals.2. Students create an Islamic design on an isometric grid.
Lessons:
There are two activities in this lesson.
1. Solve and Color Supplies: Hexagons and Stars worksheet, colored pencils or crayons Students complete math problems (adding decimals), then color the shapes in the Islamic design based on the answers. Tell students to solve all of the problems rst before coloring the design.
2. Your TurnSupplies: Create a Design worksheet, Your Turn! worksheet, pencil, eraser, ruler, colored pencils
Students will create the Islamic design on the Your Turn! worksheet by following simple, step-by-step directions on the Create a Design worksheet. Encourage students to color their nal designsand share them with their classmates. It is interesting to see how both color placement and color choicedrammatically change the appearance.
