Muslims believe that Islam has always existed but place a beginning date at the migration of Muhammad 14000 years ago. It was more practical to date the beginning here.

People who follow Islam are known as Muslims. Muslims believe there is only one God, Allah. Allah is the

Arabic word for god. Islam is the 2nd largest religion in the world. It has over 1

billion followers. 2001 census showed that in the UK there was 1,591,000

Muslims that 2.7% of the population. Muslims believe that Allah sent prophets to show mankind

how to live according to his law.

The prophets of Allah are believed to be Jesus, Moses and Abraham. Muhammad is believed to be the final prophet.

The Islamic holy book is the Qur’an and the Sunnah.

Muslims believe the Sunnah is the practical example of the prophet Mohammed. This includes the five pillars of Islam.
