INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC-EDUCATIONAL

HISTORY
International Scientific-Educational Center of the
National Academy of Sciences of Republic of Armenia
(ISEC) was established in 1997 on the basis of PhD
studies operating аt National Academy of Sciences.
ISEC’s activity aimed at preparing highly qualified
scientific-pedagogical specialists through Postgraduate
Studies, Postdoctoral Studies as well as seekers for PhD
degree on the basis of RA NAS facilities and equipment.

HISTORY
Education through master degree programs in RA NAS aims at accelerating the passage from education to scientific activity. Preparations of Master students in academic environment will enable them to quickly integrate to scientific public and acquire scientific thinking. Such approach will promote the harmonization of education and science.

Master Degree Programs
ISEC's master's programs are small, thusproviding an intimate setting for
academicinquiry. The programs don’t exceed 30students, and each fits a specificintellectual and educational niche, fostering individual contact with faculty. Duration at Master Studies for full-time education is 2 years, and for part-time education is 2.5 years.

Research
Students at ISEC have access to the laboratories at all 38 research institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia where they can carry out their experiments for their research part.

Equipment
Equipment and facilities at ISEC are permanently replenished with computers and other required hardware. Many research institutes of RA NAS with their contemporary equipment support ISEC in the implementation of its education objectives.

Fundamental Scientific Library
Students at ISEC have access to Fundamental Scientific
Library of NAS RA (FSL) known as the second best and
richest scientific library famous for capacity of its funds and
the main and largest repository of scientific publications. It is
a powerful information and bibliographical services center for
the whole National Academy of Sciences of Armenia with
approximately 3 million books, textbooks, periodicals,
journals etc.

International CooperationISEC in a range of EU Tempus 14502 l-TEMPUS-2008-UK-JPCR “New Masters Programme on Library and Information Science” programme is implementing the next strand of its educational strategy which incorporates the creation and development of a Faculty of “Library and Information Science” for master level studies. In the frameworks of this project,ISEC will introduce the concepts of Virtual Learning Environment and Life Long Learning.

International Students
Since 2008 ISEC started admission of international students in various specialties both in Master and PhD Studies. At present approximately 120 international students from Middle East study at ISEC. Instruction language for international students is English.

PhD Studies
PhD studies at ISEC is implemented together with research organizations of National Academy of Sciences of RA.
PhD studies is implemented in accordance with degree-awarding nomenclature approved by Higher Qualification Committee of Ministry of Science and Education in Armenia.

BOLOGNA PROCESS IN ARMENIA
On May 19, 2005 Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia signed the Bergen Communique of the Ministers of Education from the Bologna participating countries; thus Armenia officially joined the Bologna process committing itself to completing the implementation of main principles of the Bologna process by its specific action lines by 2010 and becoming part of the emerging European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

BOLOGNA PROCESS IN ARMENIA
In accordance with RA Decree ‘Introducing Credit System in HEIs’ the following norms are prescribed for annual workload and study load:Annual workload and study load for a Master’s student (full-time) is set 1800 hours which is equal to 60 ECTS credits.

BOLOGNA PROCESS IN ARMENIA
1 ECTS credit is equal to 30 hours. Duration of an academic year is 40 weeks, of which at least 32 is designed for practical studies. Education process is organized in 2 semesters: fall and spring.
A maximum weekly workload for a master’s student is 45 hours which is equal to 1,5 academic credits.

BOLOGNA PROCESS IN ARMENIA
In master’s study program weekly classroom workload is 15-22 hours.
In full-time education system a master’s student must have a workload of 30 credits (with 10% permissible digression), and 60 credits for one academic year.
