What’s the risk re: Salesforce data?

• It’s pretty big.– There were 1,927,929,231

transactions on July 9 according to Salesforce’s Trust site.

– If 0.005% of those suffered some error or issue where there’s data loss, then 963,965 transactions would be almost impossible to recover. That’s JUST IN ONE DAY.

– Data loss might not happen to you this week or this month…but if and when it does, it could be job-ending.

Myths and Facts About the Weekly ExportMYTH FACTThe weekly export backs up all my data, so I don’t need to worry about being able to restore things to the way they are – that’s what the weekly export is for.

The weekly export does back up your data in the export, but not metadata. So your reports and dashboards will all need to be recreated in the event of data loss.

As long as we have the export scheduled, it’s good enough to meet general IT governance, risk, and compliance processes.

Because it doesn’t enable a quick restore, it doesn’t support IT-level business continuity as defined by COBIT, Cloud Controls Matrix, NIST, HIPAA.

Many Admins lock down what end users can & cannot change, so it’s good enough to reduce the risk from end user actions.

People, processes, and tools are all imperfect – even the best MVP might make a mistake that requires a restore.
