Going forward

We want to work with the producers of successful prototypes to help them iterate further

Web2.0 @ BBC

Web2.0 @ BBC

Issues Read/Write web in a traditional Read-

Only environment! Rights – BBC doesn’t own all of “it’s”

data Surprising amount of data not in a

CMS

Page 24: is available here - Backstage.bbc.co.uk

Web2.0 @ BBC

…but that is slow changing BBC does “get it” Rights holders are beginning to

appreciate alternative biz models We are slowly eeking out cool data

from the BBC’s repositories (eg Programme Catalogue)

Health Warning!

Today’s demo is of the current in-development/alpha version with development skin/template.

Classed as an 'Experimental Prototype', with all consequences in terms of availability!

This project is not about releasing any programmes (think IMDB not Mininova!)

The DB is not a complete record of all BBC's programmes (though it is pretty awesome).

Launch date will be early next year, as an experimental prototype

We owe the BBC's librarians a huge debt for decades worth of unsung effort

BBC Programme Catalogue

Rich relational database of most BBC programmes, particularly from 1980+

Ruby-On-Rails rapid prototyping Keen to off Web2.0 offering along side

the Web1.0 Project credit to Matt Bidduplh & Ben

Hammersley (+ the BBC librarians!)
